Expression of Interest Out of Home Care Teacher

Expressions of interest are invited from teachers interested in a career opportunity relieving in the position of Out of Home Care Teacher as opportunities arise throughout the remainder of the 2017 school year. Relieving opportunities may arise across the following 15 principal networks: Bankstown, Botany Bay, Campbelltown, Canterbury, Fairfield, Georges River, Glenfield, Liverpool, Macarthur, Marrickville, Port Hacking, Port Jackson, Strathfield, Wollondilly, Woronora River.

The Out Of Home Care supports students where parental responsibility is held by the Minister of Family and Community Services. The program helps schools support the wellbeing of students who are in, or entering out of home care. The role includes consultation with Department of Family and Community Services, and other government and non-government agencies including health professionals. The Out of Home Care teacher works as part of the Learning and Wellbeing team and provides support to schools and teachers to improve educational outcomes for students living in statutory out of home care. An expression of interest addressing the criteria, of no more than two pages in length should be submitted to Judy Stenner, at email [email protected] by 4:00pm on Friday, 5 May 2017.

Role description:

Support Family and Community Services and non-government agency case workers to set up enrolment meetings for students changing schools; participate in initial education plan meetings at the school for students new to care and include appropriate school personnel, the case worker, the carer and the student, as per the Policy; and co- ordinate and/or attend case plan meetings organised by FACS and non-government agencies.

Support classroom teachers to understand the impact of complex trauma on a child or young person

Selection criteria

Approval to teach with recent classroom teaching experience including teaching students in the Out of Home Care program and a sound understanding of the complex social and educational needs of students in out of home care.

Ability to work in a team through high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and liaise with schools, students, parents and agencies and demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate documentation regarding the support provided to eligible students.

Current driver’s licence and the ability and willingness to travel between worksites
