ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES March 18, 2014 Board Meeting

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on March 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana. The Invocation was led by Mrs. Rogers. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Owen

ROLL CALL: Mr. Dayton, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Smith and Mrs. Avants. 1 ABSENT (Mr. Mackie)

APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mrs. Young moved to approve the minutes from February 18, 2014 Work Session and February 18, 2014 Board Meeting. Mr. Swilley seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT Mr. Devillier reported that Phase 1 Testing was given at Copper Mill Elementary and Northwestern Middle School on March 18, 2014. The ACT Test was given at Zachary High School. On March 19 2014 we will have Pre-K Round Up, and March 20, 2014 will be Kindergarten Round Up. On March 21, 2014 we will have our Fourth Annual Time Trials 2014-A Special Olympic Event at the Zachary High School Track. Z-Fest will begin on March 19-23, 2014. The NSBA School Board Conference will be in New Orleans on April 5-7, 2014.

RECOGNITION OF THE ZACHARY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SPELLING BEE CHAMPION The board recognized Bryce Turner as the Zachary Elementary Spelling Bee Champion. The board presented him with a certificate.

RECOGNITION OF ZHS 2014 GIRLS DIVISION (I) 4 X 200 METER RELAY STATE CHAMPIONS The board presented certificates to the following students for winning the 4 X 200 Meter Relay State Champions. Dakota Williams, Janie O'Connor, Tia Coleman and Jennifer Brown.

RECOGNITION OF ZHS 2014 GIRLS DIVISION (I) 4 X 400 METER RELAY STATE CHAMPIONS The board presented certificates to the following students for winning the 4 X 400 Relay State Champions. Kenyetta Franklin, Tia Coleman, Jennifer Brown, and Janie O'Connor

RECOGNITION OF ZHS 2014 GIRLS DIVISION (I) 400 METER RELAY STATE CHAMPIONS The board presented a certificate to Janie O'Connor for winning the 400 Meter Relay State Champions. RECOGNITION OF ZHS ALCFES SCHOLARSHIPS - MAYA PELICHET & KRISTEN JONES The board presented a certificate to Maya Pelichet and Kristen Jones for winning the ALCFES Scholarships.

RECOGNITION OF ZHS BAND STUDENT GRACIE ELLERBEE - 2014 INTERLOCHEN SUMMER ARTS CAMP The board presented a certificate to Gracie Ellerbe for being accepted into the 2014 Interlochen Summer Arts Camp.

RECOGNITION OF Z-STAR STUDENTS The board recognized Mrs. Lowery's Z-Star class from Zachary High School. Mrs. Lowery told the board that the Z-Star Class is made up of students that want to become teachers. When they complete her class they will have earned 3 college credits.

ADVERTISING FOR FOOD SERVICE AND SUPPLY BIDS Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the advertising for Food Service and Supply Bids. Mr. Swilley seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT

ANNOUNCE DATE OF 2014 PROPERTY TAX ADOPTION Mr. Gordon Robertson, Business Manager, read the following Public Notice: The Zachary Community School Board will adopt the property tax millage for the 2014 property taxes at the regular scheduled meeting on May 20, 2014 starting at 07:00 P.M. Meeting to be held at the Zachary Community School Board Central Office located at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana 70791. (See Attached) Mr. Owen moved to approve to announce date of the 2014 Property Tax Adoption. Mr. Smith seconded the motion. There was no public comment VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT

COMMITTEE REPORTS Mr. Swilley told the board that the Facilities Committee met on March 4, 2014. (See Attached)

COMMITTEE MEETINGS Finance Committee Meeting to be announced. Technology Committee Meeting on April 1, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.
