Application for ECDA Innovation Guidance Project 2018 (Only type-written application forms in word document will be considered)

Innovation Guidance Projects (IGPs) aim to  improve the quality of preschool programmes and teaching-learning practices  foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and reflective practices

Through IGPs, preschools could explore less conventional ideas and approaches to:  enhance learning experiences for children  promote community engagement and home-centre partnerships  modify existing innovations beyond the first year of project implementation

Training is provided, for preschools selected to participate in IGP, to support the teachers with the knowledge and necessary skills to carry out their IGPs. The training period for IGP 2018 is April-May 2018. The project implementation period is 6 months, from the date of award of IGP Grant. During the project implementation period, participating preschools may be visited by officers from ECDA and the community agency.

Upon completion of the IGP, participating preschools are required to submit a final report and expenditure form with supporting documents as project deliverables.

Preschools that have not received the IGP Grant may take this opportunity to apply for participation in any one of the following 2018 IGPs:

Project 1 Title: A Pet is For Life Community Partner: Agri-food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore NEL Learning Discovery of the World and Social & Emotional Development Domain(s)

Project Aims  Equip preschool teachers with knowledge and tools on responsible pet ownership and be able to share it with children

 Inculcate a sense of wonder and respect for animals

 Create and expand on existing resources on teaching children about responsible pet ownership

Project Aims  Offer children an opportunity to explore the Gardens and nature

 Enhance children’s knowledge and appreciation of flora from all over the world and fauna found in the Gardens

 Offer insights on the available educational resources at GB to equip preschool teachers to plan and conduct meaningful learning journeys

2 Project 3 Title: Artful Conversations: Enriching Children’s Appreciation of Art Community Partner: National Gallery Singapore NEL Learning Discovery of the World and Social & Emotional Development Domain(s)

Project Aims  Equip preschool teachers with skills and confidence to discuss about artworks with young children

 Nurture preschool teachers’ creative expression and develop their appreciation of the unique role that art can play in disseminating ideas and information in the early childhood classroom

3 Project 4 Title: Singapore Little Treasures (SLT)@ The Peranakan Museum Community Partner: National Heritage Board NEL Learning Discovery of the World and Social & Emotional Development Domain(s)

Project Aims  Equip preschool teachers with tools to create authentic heritage lessons and learning corners, in which they can co-construct knowledge with children

 Provide opportunities for children to explore the Peranakan culture and relate it to their daily lives

 Enable children to learn about Singapore’s rich multicultural roots through innovative learning experiences within a museum setting

Project 5 Title: Our City in a Garden Community Partner: National Parks Board

Project Aims  Equip preschool teachers with the knowledge and resources on local examples of plants and animals to create engaging lessons and learning corners

 Raise awareness of our City in a Garden amongst children

4 Project 6 Title: Make Every Drop Counts Community Partner: Public Utilities Board (PUB), Singapore’s National Water Agency

Project Aims  Equip preschool teachers with the knowledge on water education and how to effectively engage the children and their families through meaningful activities to conserve, value and enjoy our waters

 Enable children to understand the importance of water conservation

 Encourage children to become an ambassador of water conservation and spread this message to their family and friends

Details  Target participants: Preschool and Senior Preschool teachers  Target Preschoolers: K1, K2  Max number of participating preschools: 25  Training date: 4th week of March 2018 (Tentative)  Training date: April 2018 (Tentative)  End-project sharing date: July 2018 (Tentative)

Note: As part of the final project deliverables, preschools will co- develop a learning resource to be shared with the Early Childhood sector. Preschools will also track their centre & children’s water consumption to assess the effectiveness of their water education project.

Project 7 Title: Creative Curious Tinkers Community Partner: Science Centre Board

Project Aims  Support preschool teachers in setting up a tinkering space that would arouse the curiosity of the children, and planning activities that encourage creative thinking, teamwork and collaboration

 Capture and develop children’s imagination, curiosity and creativity through the “Think, Make, Play, Improve” approach

5  Enable children to explore tinkering activities that nurture their discovery of the world, and aesthetics & creative expression

 Capture and develop children’s imagination, curiosity and creativity through scientific inquiry

 Encourage children to explore Earth Sciences focusing on topics related to land and water

 Encourage children’s curiosity and sense of wonder for simple machines, by providing authentic learning environments, and meaningful, experiential and open-ended activities

Project 11 Title: Kindness Onboard! Community Partner: Singapore Kindness Movement

Project Aims  Increase teachers’ and children’s awareness of the different kindness acts that can be displayed on the roads and public transport, as well as to the different groups of road users in the community (e.g. public transport passengers, bus captains, cleaners, cyclists etc.)

 Enable children to show kindness and be gracious road and public transport users through words and actions

 Help children to differentiate between considerate and inconsiderate actions

Project Aims  Offer insights on available educational resources at WRS parks (The Singapore Zoo and Jurong Bird Park) so as to equip preschool teachers to plan and conduct innovative and meaningful learning journeys

 Enhance children’s knowledge about the rich biodiversity around us

 Encourage children to explore through hands-on activities, the habitats and characteristics of the different animal species

Project Aims  To offer insights into the available educational resources at WRS parks so as to empower teachers to plan and conduct innovative and meaningful learning journeys to engage students in the six learning areas of the kindergarten curriculum framework

 Enhance children’s knowledge about the rich biodiversity around us

 Encourage children to explore through hands-on activities, the habitats and characteristics of the different animal species

Details  Target participants: Preschool and Senior Preschool teachers  Target Preschoolers: N2, K1, K2  Max number of participating preschools: 20  Training date: 4th week of April 2018  Training date: 3rd week of May 2018  End-project sharing date: 3rd week of July 2018

10 11 Preschools that meet the following eligibility criteria may apply for IGP:

a) Have participated in not more than two IGP from 2015 – 2017 b) Can commit 2 ECDA-certified preschool teachers for the full duration of the IGP. This includes the training programme and sharing sessions c) Can achieve the key objectives of the project d) Able to co-pay 5% of the total approved expenditure e) Able to fully support their teachers throughout the implementation of the IGP

Preschools will be informed of the application outcome1 by February 2018. Successful preschools will be provided with the details of the IGP Grant breakdown and approved amount relevant to their project when they confirm their participation.
