Stettler Minor Hockey Minutes September 8 th , 2011

The Meeting was called to order at 7:20 pm by Sandra Schell. The last meeting minutes were reviewed and Christa Cornelssen moved to adopt as read and Sandra Schell seconded.

Hockey Alberta Zone Meeting is on September 18th, Jason Bridge and Dave Deaver will be attending.

Try out fees $ ? Late Fees $ ?

• Made all of us aware that Jerry had a heart attack but is recovering. • Jerry was wondering who she is supposed to talk to; she was told it was Lenny • While she is recovering, she is paying people to take charge • Jerry is looking at some kitchen equipment from Social Bo’s, wants approval from executive to buy it • Need to approve 2 people to do an audit for SMHA books • Need to know who is booking Hotel rooms for tournaments?

Registrar – Sandra Schell

• There is a NCMHA meeting on September 17th • Respect in Sport almost complete, need lots from Novice and Pee Wee Division • Innisfail and Sylvan Lake went to the South League, Possibly Lacombe or Olds as well • Possibly a problem in Midget Division as Castor now wants a team, 5 kids could go back to Castor which would really hurt our situation. VP Admin – Lenny Hoac

VP Development – Glen Morbeck

• Ref Clinic booked for first weekend of October • Looking at dates for Coaches Clinic and Checking Clinic

VP Programs – Kevin Burkard

• Tournaments are booked, waiting approval. Sanctions applied for.

Equipment Director Still Needed

• Brand new pennies last year, they are a mess this year. We need to send out a mass email to all parents to see if we can get some returned.

Website Coordinator – Andrea DeYoung

• Needs to be updated with the following information for website, minutes from August 11th meeting, sponsors for season, Rebel game Sponsors, upcoming clinics, all forms.

Referee/Ice Allocator – Fran Sharpe

• Red Ice goes in on October 11th • We have to divide up the ice until Oct. 11th, use mornings • Lots of young referees signed up

Fundraising Chairperson - Executive

• Rebels game, Posters are made, tickets are printed • Still looking for official puck dropper • Last years awards to be presented: Steven Wright Award goes to Mack Schell Most Outstanding Pee Wee goes to Matt Sylvester Midget Award goes to Brandon Niemetz • Media, need some ads in paper for Rebels game • Lenny was going to talk to Q14 about coming down to Pre Game BBQ Tryout Committee – Sandra Schell

• Going well so far • Evaluators have had to make tough decisions, $60 one skate guarantee worked • Having trouble finding evaluators • Good feedback from evaluation letters

-From September 27th email discussion. After much thought and discussion with the parents involved, regarding the Midget goaltending situation, the decision was voted unanimously to keep all 6 goaltenders.

Female Director - Cheryl Van Dusen

Open Discussion

The idea of a Novice Traveling team was brought up. The discussion was split among the group on what the best way to develop the kids was. There were ideas of having 3 house league teams that played the majority of their games in town against each other. As well as 1 Traveling team that would play surrounding towns and represent the Town of Stettler. There was also the idea of having all kids play in a 4 team house league, and then have the top kids play as a group against other communities. The topic was tabled and will be discussed further.

Performance Gym will be able to do physio on any injured player and it will be covered by Hockey Canada.

Alix won their appeal; kids will be allowed to come to Stettler. SMHA needs to get letters of support from Stettler County, Town of Stettler, Erskine School, and Clearview School District in order to change boundary for the 2012 – 2013 season. Letters need to be in to Zone 7 (Bonnie Ogilvie ?) by December 15th, 2011.

There was discussion regarding female registration fees. Kevin Burkard motioned that no matter what division the female player is playing in, they are only to pay the fee of their actual age group. No late fees. Veronica Seconded, All in Favor.
