North Vista Elementary School Parent Involvement Policy
The Title I Program Plan is discussed at the Title I Annual Meeting. Parents may ask for further discussion or they may view a copy upon request. Parents are invited to help plan and take part in their school’s program. They are involved in the planning (Title I Committee), review and improvement of the school’s Title I Program. Parent input is encouraged through input forms, surveys, and participation in parent workshops, parent-teacher conferences, and Title I Committee/School Improvement Council. The Parent Involvement Policy is discussed at the annual meeting and sent home to parents in weekly folders. Parents are encouraged to give suggestions and comments that will be presented to the Title I Committee/School Improvement Council and taken into consideration.
North Vista Elementary School will provide parents with timely information about programs under parent involvement. Notices will be sent home by students. A website is kept current so that parents can check to see what is going on at our school and newsletters with Title I updates are sent home on a regular basis to keep parents informed. ParentLink is a communication system which sends messages via telephone to parents and students to inform them of important information happening in the school. Information is also posted on our social media (Facebook) page and on the school marquee. Workshops, programs and conferences will be held at different times during the day to accommodate the work schedules of our parents.
North Vista Elementary School will give parents a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet via our annual meeting, parent orientation, monthly newsletters, weekly folders, agendas, report cards, interim reports, school website and parent conferences.
If requested by parents, North Vista Elementary School will give opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their child(ren) and respond to any suggestions as soon as practicably possible. This can be accomplished through PTA meetings, appointments made with teachers and/or administrators, or at parent-teacher conferences.
Title I School-Parent-Student Compacts will be distributed at registration. This compact is jointly developed with parents and outlines how parents, school staff and students will share in the responsibility for improved student achievement.
North Vista Elementary School provides materials and training through Title I Parent Workshops. The workshops are planned from requests on the Title I parent surveys. They include training in literacy, math, study skills, using technology, and other pertinent information to help parents. Parent workshops are held at different times of the day. There is a Title I section in the media center for parents’ use. It includes books, videos and materials for check-out.
If the school-wide program plan is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the comments and suggestions will be submitted to the Title I Committee for review.
