1 CLASS 1

Senior Historical Costume. The class will be judged at walk. The judge will inspect competitor’s attire and horse/pony tack closely for historical accuracy when the class is lined up. Competitors must submit a brief resume about their apparel together with a photograph of the copied costume, to confirm authenticity.

CLASS 2

Junior Historical Costume. Juniors must wear hats to current safety standards, or above for this class. Competitors must submit a brief resume about their apparel together with a photograph of the copied costume, to confirm authenticity.

CLASS 3

Senior Costume Concours d’Elegance, pre 19th Century. The sole criterion for this class is the elegance of the picture presented by horse/pony and rider and the way of going of the horse/pony. Detailed inspection of the rider’s period costume is not required. Fancy dress is not permitted. Competitors are required to walk, trot and canter. No individual show is required, but the judge may ask small groups of riders to give short displays. Competitors should produce a brief written resume of their costume for the commentator.

CLASS 4

Junior Costume Concours d’Elegance. Juniors must wear hats to current Safety Standard or above for this class. Details as above. Competitors should produce a brief written resume of their costume for the commentator.

CLASS 5

Senior Costume Concours d’Elegance post 19th Century. Details as per Class 3. Competitors should produce a brief written resume of their costume for the commentator.

2 Classes 3,4 and 5 are qualifiers for the 2018 JVJ Side Saddle Costume Concours d’Elegance Championship at the South of England Show, Ardingly West Sussex on Saturday 9th June 2018. Special rosettes and certificates to be presented.

CLASS 6

Dismounted Riding Costume Class. Ladies, Gentlemen and Children. Fancy dress not permitted. Competitors should submit a brief written resume of their costume for the commentator.
