Think Purple Week is March 18-22. It is a district-wide campaign run by the Chemical Dependency Committee to raise awareness that “Drugs & Alcohol Hurt Kids.”

Brunner is participating in several ways:

· All students are decorating paper “I am special” dolls, which will decorate the halls at Brunner during Think Purple Week.

· Ms. Hirschorn is preparing a special display in the Media Center for Think Purple that will emphasize self-esteem and anti-bullying messages.

· Also in the Media Center, students can try the Think Purple guessing jar of candy to focus attention on Think Purple.

· On March 14, the district is sponsoring an assembly at Brunner to complement the Think Purple initiative.

· During Think Purple week, students will be asked to do something every day. On Monday, students will be asked to “Think Purple, Wear Purple,” for example.

· Every student will receive a Think Purple wrist band and pencil. 3rd/4th graders will also receive special folders.

· All students at Brunner will write letters on purple hearts to Scotch Plains Fanwood High School graduating seniors. These letters will be hung at the high school before graduation.

· A Think Purple banner and purple ribbons will decorate the school. Teachers and staff will wear purple lapel ribbons.

Also at the High School, a person dressed as the “Grim Reaper” will walk the halls and randomly choose people to represent how drugs & alcohol can hurt people we know. Those students will be asked not to speak for the remainder of the day, as if they were not there. This program is run every four years in the high school.
