TITLE: LOST AND FOUND ITEMS

I. REFERENCES

A. Code of Maryland Regulations 11.03.01.08K, Lost Articles.

B. This Directive supersedes BWI Tenant Directive 700.6, dated August 30, 1995.

II. DIRECTIVE STATEMENT

A. This Directive establishes procedures for the handling of lost and found items in public areas at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall) to include restaurants, and public and employee parking lots.

B. The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) Lost and Found, operated by the Landside Operations Center, shall be responsible for the receipt and processing of lost and found items recovered from the public areas of BWI Marshall.

C. Property recovered by an airline, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) or any other tenant, or property identifiable as having been in custody of an airline, TSA or another tenant operating at BWI Marshall, shall remain under the possession and control of that airline, TSA or that tenant.

D. Explosives, weapons, drugs and other illegal items found by an individual shall be reported to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police as soon as found.

III. PROCEDURES

A. All lost items found in public areas of BWI Marshall, except items found by airline, TSA or tenant as provided above in Section II (C), shall be submitted to MAA Lost and Found. MAA Lost and Found staff will log and store articles in a secured area and be the point of contact for inquiries.

B. MAA Lost and Found will return items to owners when claimed. Lost and found items which are not claimed after 30 days will be disposed of in accordance with the MAA Lost and Found Manual. MAA Lost and Found can be contacted at 410-859-7387 or at [email protected].

C. When requested, items will be returned to the owner using a delivery service (e.g. U.S. Postal Service, Federal Express, etc.) at the owner’s expense.

D. MAA Lost and Found will keep records of items found, inquiries, claims and disposals.
