Week 6 Term 4 Thursday 10th November 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

Information for Parents and Caregivers With storm season upon us, please be aware that your child’s safety is of our utmost concern. If we are caught in a storm at pick-up time, the students will be gathered together under the building or kept in classrooms. Please do not panic to have them picked up. They will be safe.

2017 Classes In 2017, due to year level numbers, expected class groupings will be as follows:- Prep/1/2 – Mrs Ducci Year 3/4 – Mrs Steinhardt Year 5/6 – Mrs Newton / Mrs Bryant

Enrolment Details Please make sure to contact the office in regards to any changes with family and student contact details.

Collection of students from school A reminder to parents that if you will be picking your child/children up before the end of the day due to sickness/appointments or emergencies you are to sign them out at the office in the main building or at Prep/1. Students are to wait in the sick bay/office area if they are in year 2-6 or at Prep/1 if they are in Mrs Ducci class for collection from their parent or guardian. Thank you. Our recent Art show efforts at the Black Snake Creek Market Day. P/1 NEWS Another fortnight has flown by. The students are all engaged and there is lots of learning taking place. Our Preps are making great progress with their reading. Most of them know all the Speed Sounds Set 1 and are using their new knowledge to decode words in any book they try to read. I have been focussing totally on decoding the words as I do not want them to establish the habit of trying to guess words from pictures. They are getting their speed up so the sounds come automatically when decoding and writing words. The Year Ones are also doing well remembering their sounds but now some of them need to apply them to improve their writing and spelling skills. I must also stress that it is so beneficial for your child if you read to them every night. You are modelling the art of reading aloud to your child and this is very, very important. We had a terrific time on the oval this week measuring, in metres, how long several dinosaurs were. Once measured and the strings were cut, we arranged the lengths to form a graph. The students were so engaged in the activity. We have started practising for presentation evening. The students will only need a shirt with a pocket in it and a cap. Until next time, Ciao Gail Ducci

2-3 NEWS Hello Everyone, hasn’t the weather been interesting? As teachers we would almost bet that storms arrive right on 3pm. Our future Marburg towns are beginning to take shape with 3D shapes being constructed and attached to the cardboard base. Each shape needs to look like the building or structure it represents before it is added to the student’s development. The students have gained an insight into scale, direction and logical processes as part of this technology project. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful teacher aides. These ladies, paid and volunteer, pour their energy, care and efforts into assisting the students and teachers with a vast variety of essential tasks throughout the school. Without the cooperation and support of these ladies the school would be a less pleasant and educationally interesting place in which to work and learn. As the year is drawing to a close our learning is more centred on reflection and consolidation. Report cards are due to parents at the beginning of week ten. This gives us three weeks to refine and refresh all the concepts covered during the semester. Please speak to your child in regards to their costume for presentation night. The majority of students are performing as their future selves and will need to be dressed accordingly. A small number of others will need less structured outfits. Please plan to attend this event in week nine. Until next time Marina S

4-5-6 NEWS Well hello to the parents of year 4/5/6 and I hope you have had a great couple of weeks. Well we are now over half way through the last term of the year and I am so proud of the effort the students have put into not only their curriculum learning but also their ability to work as a team. Students are working hard at creating their own environmental poems and have used their 5 senses to help them draw on ideas to assist with the written component. I have seen students in the class reach and challenge themselves with their thinking and written work. It has been very rewarding for me as their teacher. Last week we set specific goals for reading/writing and numeracy and each student is now mindful of what they need to do to achieve these goals in each learning area. Our maths focus will continue around area and volume/ number study and its application in real life- for example money/budgets and the use of large numbers in society. We are continuing to practice our scripts and items for Presentation evening and the art focus for the remainder of the term will be the production of props for their performances. It is always a great night for families, so please be sure to take notice of the date claimers for all events this term. Year 5 students will present their leadership speeches on Friday 18th November so please come and support them. Report cards for this semester will go home on Monday 5th December. I would also like to welcome Jack Brown to our class. We are now a team of 28 and the kids continue to grow even at this stage of the year. If at any time you have any questions regarding your child’s progress please feel free to contact me at school or by email- [email protected] Until next time, take care, Mrs N.

MRS BRYANT It has been another busy fortnight in the 4-6 room on Thursdays and Fridays as we all learn together. In Science, we are learning all about the physical sciences with a focus at the moment on the properties of light energy and how electrical circuits work. In History, we have learned about the events that led to the rebellion at Eureka and over the next few weeks we will learn about the effect of immigration on Australia. In Geography, we are still practicing our mapping skills as we learn about the continents, oceans and seas of Earth. The end of the year will be here before we know it but we have lots more to do before we get there. Mrs B.
