Welcome to the 2007 Football Seaasn and Its Great to Be Back and Lets Hop the a Grade Repeat

BULLDOG BULLETIN AUGUST 2007

Progress for the season The A grade are in top spot by one game nearing the end of the minor round and will hopefully put in another great performance in the finals. The B grade are fourth and the Under 18’s fifth and must win every game to hold on to a spot in the finals. In the U15’s South’s have still not lost a game at this stage and the Quorn/ South team continues to improve. In the U13’s both South White and South Red hold 1st and 2nd spot and the U11’s finished second after an excellent year for the boys and Ritts. Noogs has the U9’s running hot and looking forward to the carnival in Quorn. Bradley Amos achieved history last week becoming the first South Augusta player to reach 100 goals in a minor round by kicking 16 goals against Lions in the 35 to 7 goal victory. This tips off another excellent year for Bradley and the 2006 Fairest and Best should be right up their again this year, well done for the club. The players auction was again well supported with takings of over $2,000 and over $1,000 to go towards Football operations, thanks for all involved. Great to see Under 18 player Michael Heron out at training and although it maybe 12 moths before he plays if at all its an inspiration to us all to see him back around the club. Congratulations to Joeboy Waye who took out the Under 13’s Medal winner for the League with Michael Morse finishing third. Louis Fox for South White finished with the most goals after a great year. In the 15’s league Awards, Daniel Royals finished second after an excellent season. Don’t forget the Colts Presentation Day on the 9th September.

Management Committee News The Management Committee are pleased to announce that Denise Cullen has been appointed Bar Manager as from Monday August 20th. All enquiries for hall bookings are to be directed through the Bar Manager. We wish her every success.

Back to Souths The South Augusta Football Club welcomed back at least 150 people to its “Back to South ‘ weekend. South ‘s celebrating its 95th year also had a great win over archrivals Central Augusta that topped off the day. Past players and officials who returned from outside Port Augusta included 1976 Fairest and Best Andy Coleman, 2 time Fairest and Best Brinton Lashed 1974/76, 1952/54 B Grade coach Noel Weston, Player and Club Official from the 1950’s John Busbridge, Bob Cunningham 1953 B Grade premiership player, 1981 and 1983 Premiership player Derek Edmead with 2 brothers Peter, Steve and Terry Edmead who were B grade premiership players, Paul and Kym Elliot from Roxby Downs, John Hearne from Qld, 1981 Premiership player Tony Sullivan, Mark Zindorf 1990 B grade premiership player and Ben Chapman who was a B Grade premiership player in 1995. Replays of past premierships and a presentation to retired 300 gamers Anthony Anno, Jarred Waterworth and Shane Kennedy, retired 200 gamer Jason Waterworth and past players Terry Smith, Michael Maloney and Dwayne Crombie were highlights of the night, everyone had a great time and many thanks to those who made the effort to attend or at least reply to the invite.

Table Tennis Grant The Table tennis training robot has arrived and should and increase the numbers of players training at the club during the week, please make them welcome. We all want to see Bill and Franko take on the robot one night after a few and see how they go.

Living In Harmony Update The project recently delivered a Sausage sizzle and soup night plus a Leadership talk from Cecelia Woolford, who has completed 7 Sydney to Hobart’s races. Cecelia was well received by all 40 players who attended training that night and hopefully they took some good points away from the speech. Don’t forget the Presentation night on the 6th October, which aims to honour the past and present Indigenous players who have played over 100 games, been part of Seniors premiership sides and won Medals. It will be great to see you there if you can make it.

Where are they now. We managed to find Cameron Coligan, ex Madigan Medallist for Risdon and 1983 South B Grade Grand finalist in Cairns and although he couldn’t make the back to Souths show he sends his regards and glad we remembered him. Nicknamed ‘Tattoo” after the midget on Loveboat he was a great man to have around the club during those years and a great laugh.

Club Picnic Many thanks to the youth Committee which assisted with the Family day and organising the Parent vs Kids games in all grades, Coaching Clinics, BBQ and refreshments. Special thanks to Michael Curley and Ryan Struck were king of the kids on the day and poor old Brock Laube who was unfairly picked on by the kids.
