OUTING CLASS TRIP: Alpine Lakes Day Hike, October 28, 2017

BACKGROUND: We will be taking a day hike trip to an alpine location near the Snoqualmie Pass area, a unique opportunity to explore fragile, alpine ecosystems and enjoy towering views of the surrounding peaks. Our final destination will be determined during the week prior to the trip.

GEAR and FOOD: See the packing list below. Bringing all items on the packing list is essential and mandatory. As is attending the meeting, in which we will discuss items. Note that because we are hiking, it is critical that you have good footwear and a comfortable daypack.

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW ABOUT THE MEETING TUESDAY, OCT. 24 th .

WHEN: We will depart from school at 8:00 AM on Saturday, Oct. 28th, and we will return to school on Saturday at about 6:00 PM. Please arrange a prompt pick-up from the school, as a faculty member must remain with the student(s) until they are picked up!!!!

COST: $20.00 per person to help cover transportation and trail permit. SUPERVISION: Jeremy DeWitt, Sophie Daudon, and Olivia Heeter

EQUIPMENT NEEDED – note this is different than the usual list. Pay close attention! General notes:  Plan for cold, wet, windy weather. And  Bring a headlamp/flashlight with extra hope for sun! batteries  No cotton, except for maybe your t-shirt.  No cotton Athletic, quick-dry t-shirt and layers will dry  Map (to be supplied) and Compass quickly and keep you warm! Feet:  Hiking shoes that you have worn before  Wool or polypro socks (2 pairs – one on feet, one in pack!) Clothing, etc.:  Long underwear base layer.  One more warm and quick dry layer – to  Rain gear – top and bottom. have in your bag as backup  Pants or shorts for hiking in (see note about  Hats – 2 kinds: one for the sun and one for cotton! Jeans are cotton!) the cold.  Light weight shirt for hiking (you will warm  Gloves up no matter what the weather)  Sunglasses  Mid-weight fleece/insulated layer  Sun block & lip protection  Down or synthetic coat or really warm  Daypack to carry your stuff fleece Food  Protein-rich snacks  Extra food for if you are out there longer  Lunch – something that will fill you up and than planned… (second sandwich? lots of does not have tons of packaging. bars? energy goo?)  Water. 2 liters.

DEADLINES: Permission slips & fees due to Maria at front desk by noon on Monday, Oct. 23.

IF YOU WANT TO ATTEND THIS TRIP, YOU MUST ATTEND THE MEETING IN THE EARTH LAB ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 24th during BREAK TIME (9:30 to 9:50 AM) If you cannot make this meaning, you MUST communicate with Jeremy or Sophie ahead of time. No exceptions.
