LEVI’S FIGHT ON CENTER STAGE AT 2014 DREAM BOWL II

When Lebanon Valley College’s most famous football fan, Levi Hains arrived in Virginia Beach he had no idea what memorable events were in store for him. Cutting Edge Sports Management, hosts of Dream Bowl II, a college football all-star game played January 20, 2014, at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, provided Levi with a weekend he will not soon forget.

Levi John Hains is 6 years old and the youngest of 3 boys. Levi was diagnosed with the most progressive form of Muscular Dystrophy, known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. With the help of his mother, Perlita, and father, Gordy, the Hains family created the charity, Levi's Fight, in honor of their brave son, as they seek a cure for Duchenne. The Hains family is big supporters of the LVC football program and the entire school community has taken up the cause for Levi’s Fight. DMD has a 100% fatality rate and is typically diagnosed in boys between the ages of 3-7. They will generally lose their ability to walk between ages 8-12. The symptoms of this disease and the fact no cure exists for DMD is unacceptable to CESM and the Hains family.

Levi's story was brought to the attention of CESM by two extraordinary members of the Lebanon Valley College football team, Joey Miller and Kevin Smith. Upon their registration to play in the Dream Bowl, these outstanding young men thought not of their own recognition in this national all-star game being played in front of professional football scouts but rather they insisted that Levi be the one recognized. CESM took over from there.

On Saturday evening at the annual Dream Bowl football banquet, Levi and his family were the guests of honor. As the banquet program began, CESM President, Neil Malvone, called Joey and Kevin to the front of the room. Levi was then escorted to the podium by his parents. There, Joey and Kevin presented Levi with an honorary captain Dream Bowl jersey with his name and his familiar # 2 on the back. Smiling ear-to-ear, Levi hugged his mom and dad and slapped fives with Joey and Kevin. Levi’s weekend was only just beginning. Throughout the weekend, CESM sold Levi’s Fight wristbands and donated all proceeds to Levi’s Fight. In addition, a portion of all ticket sales of fans who mentioned LVC and Levi was also donated by Cutting Edge Sports Management.

On game day, Levi again took center stage and as captain of the Crusaders he participated in the ceremonial coin toss at midfield. When asked by the referee if he was ready, his excited mom stated, “Oh yes. Levi loves to flip the coin for the opening coin toss!” Levi enjoyed the Dream Bowl from the best seat in the house – walking up and down the sideline holding his dad’s hand. After the game, Levi posed with the championship trophy surrounded by the all-stars from both teams.
