The First Milestone (Of Three)

The First Milestone (of Three)

As with any endeavor, getting started is perhaps the most difficult and the most crucial aspect. Once you decide to get your foot out the door, so to speak, you can finally set things in motion and gain momentum toward your goals.

That said, it's time to get you started on your way to becoming a successful fitness model. You have to start somewhere and the following 3 steps (of the 15 total) will outline the process. With the Ultimate Fitness Modeling Blueprint Step by Step Guide, you get a complete layout from start to finish. But these first 3 steps will get you started!

Take your time if you’d like with each of these steps in order to do them accurately and peacefully.

Step 1 - Research the best agencies in your area

A good agency is important if you want to boost your chances of success. Take a few days to fully research the agencies in your area.

Try to find the ones that have the best reviews and feedback, and see which ones are able to provide solid fitness modeling work for their models. This sounds easy, but is vital to a good start.

Step 2 - Pick out 3 agencies and contact them

After you've done your research, you can now pick out the top 3 modeling agencies that you feel can help you jumpstart your fitness modeling career. Contact these agencies (email or phone) and ask about the things they require from prospective models.

Do they need professional photos, or raw shots? Which measurements will they need to evaluate you? Should you provide them with a portfolio (a compilation of your photos) or a comp card (the model's business card with a headshot up front and the measurements and more photos on the back)?

You don’t need to have all of these things just yet, simply find out what the agencies want. Once you know the requirements, you can proceed to Step 3.

Step 3 - Prepare your photos, measurements, portfolio, and comp cards

Now this step can scare some people as they realize, ‘Wow I don’t have any of these.’ Don’t stress it. Some of these things you can get as you go along. Some you may not need. Some your agency may provide. Just do your best and try to come up with whatever the agency asks for. They will help guide you toward success.

In this step, you should be able to come up with the materials that the modeling agencies require.

For professionally done photos, you might want to see if the agencies have a preferred photographer. You could also enlist the services of reliable photographers in your area. If you're going to send raw photos, then all you need is a decent camera and perhaps someone you know who can take pictures. Full-body, waist-up, and head shots should be a good start.

When it comes to measurements, a simple measuring tape will do. Make sure the tape is tight as you measure, but not too tight.

For portfolios and comp cards, ask if the agency has affiliates or referrals that can help you. If not, seek out your own. There are plenty of service providers online these days, and they can whip up what you need in no time.

Remember, the best comp card layout consists of a strong headshot on the front, then 3 or 4 varied photos at the back along with your relevant measurements. For your portfolio, keep it simple and strong and make sure that the shots highlight your best assets. ------
