SUBMITTED BY INEOS, FOR PLANNING PERMISSION TO DRILL AN EXPLORATORY HYDROCARBON WELL ON LAND ADJACENT TO COMMON ROAD, HARTHILL

To: DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT [email protected] ROTHERHAM METROPOLITON BOROUGH COUNCIL RIVERSIDE HOUSE telephone 01709 823 840 MAIN STREET ROTHERHAM S60 1AE

I OBJECT to the above planning application on the following grounds: (Please tick all that you wish to be included in your objection and cross out any that you do not wish to include)

 It will significantly increase the volume of traffic, including heavy goods vehicles, on the unsuitably narrow Packman Lane and Common Road. This could result in 70 traffic movements a day of up to 32 tonne lorries and support vehicles, totaling at least 7,650 over the duration of the initial exploratory drill.

 The landscape will be considerably changed and the countryside industrialised. With the structure being over bearing, out of scale and out of character in term of its appearance compared with existing development within the vicinity.

 The vibration and noise from the 24 hours a day drilling over several months will affect a large area, resulting in sleep disturbance and increased stress. There will be further noise from compressors, pumps and the large number of heavy vehicle movements.

 There will be serious light pollution from night working, and air pollution from NOx from vehicle movements, as diesel generates pollution including particulates, hydrocarbons and dust.

 The wildlife in the adjacent Crow Wood and Loscar Common Plantation, including deer, bats, birds (song thrush, willow tit, red legged partridge, kestrels) which will be severely disturbed by the light, noise and vibration, and could be severely damaged by a water pollution incident.

 Packman Road, an ancient Roman road (Historic England Register, Monument No. 318676) is only 9 feet wide and will have to be widened, destroying 700 years-old hedgerows resulting in loss of habitat.

 The proposed drilling site is exceptionally close to an underground aquifer within a ground water protection Zone 3. No guarantee can be given that it will not be contaminated from spills and leaks during drilling or at some time in the future.

 The proposed site is in agricultural land grade 2, which is very good quality, most versatile and has significant protection from development. Further reasons:
