New Venue Seacliffe Ride

Scottish Endurance Riding Club

Seacliff Saturday 15th June 2013

RIDER INFORMATION

With our grateful thanks to all the landowners and especially James and Sarah Grant –Suttie for the venue fields

Before the ride - On arrival collect your number from the admin caravan. Competitive & ER riders hand in their Master Card and Cumulative Mileage Card, with the ride venue and date already filled in. Pleasure/training riders hand in their cumulative mileage card. All riders must hand over their medical card (in a named, sealed envelope if you like). Check if there are any alterations to the route, time allowances or start times. Please note that if you arrive more than half an hour late you will be allowed to start only at the Chief Steward’s discretion.

If you see the vet is not busy you can usually vet early. Wearing your number bib, hand your vet sheet, to the vet writer at the vetting area. Reclaim your vet sheet.

Hand your vet sheet to the farrier (if present), who will check that your horse’s shoes are adequate for the distance you’re riding. Do not expect him to shoe your horse. Reclaim your vet sheet.

The Club now routinely inspects the tack of non-members only. Members are open to random tack inspections. Make sure your tack is clean and that everything complies with current regulations. Your hat must be PAS015, ASTM1163, BSEN 1384 or superior standard. Your whip must be no more than 30” long. You must carry a first aid kit containing at least a triangular bandage, pressure bandage, vetwrap, space blanket, glucose tablets and whistle. Wear your laminated medical card on your bib

At the start, hand your vet sheet to the Starter. Be ready to go when they tell you. Make sure beforehand that you have completed the sheet correctly

During the ride - Tell checkpoint stewards your number as you pass. Don’t expect them to make a guess. Close gates behind you which are closed when you reach them. Ride slowly past stock, other horse and through farmyards, and report any injured/distressed animals to the next checkpoint. If the route is used by walkers or cyclists, please be considerate and slow down to pass them. If the instructions and markers tell you to ride round the edge of fields, please do so— taking a short cut is both cheating and will alienate farmers and landowners. When crossing roads with a road marshall, make your own decision as to when it’s safe to cross—marshalls have no power to stop traffic, only to act as a warning.

After the ride - On your return, collect your Finish card from the Starter. You can present to the vet any time within 30 minutes of finishing. Allow 30 minutes after vetting before returning your number bib to the admin caravan and collecting your results and your mileage card(s).

Markers - are various colours of plastic tape and spray; Normally markers will be on your left. Two markers together indicate a turn.

Refunds and withdrawals - If you notify your withdrawal up to 14 days prior to the ride, you will receive a full refund. After that time refunds will be at the Ride Secretary’s discretion. Even if you are not in time for a refund, please notify the Ride Secretary of your withdrawal right up to the night before the ride. On the day of the ride itself please notify admin on 07967 266115. This is also the emergency number while you are on the ride.

If you follow these guidelines you are helping to ensure an enjoyable and smooth-running day for all—riders, helpers and administrators. If you do not, you risk incurring a penalty ban from future rides.
