Messages From the Masters Brian L Weiss MD © 1994,

I suggest that you read the information in “Many Lives, Many Masters” before reading this section.

Between the first book and this one Dr Weiss wrote two other books - "Only Love Is Real" which deals with the idea of soulmates; and "Through Time Into Healing" which reveals the extraordinary healing potential of past-life therapy. He shows how healing the mind can heal the body.

This, his fourth book, shows how to use the energies of love and joy to transform your life and relationships and create peace, happiness and fulfilment. It is all based on the premise expressed in chapter 1: "I believe we do reincarnate until we learn our lessons and graduate. And, as I have repeatedly pointed out, there is considerable historical and clinical evidence that reincarnation is a reality."

The purpose of our many incarnations is to help us evolve as spiritual beings. In this book Dr Weiss gives examples from dozens of sessions where patients regressed to post-birth, in-utero and previous lives. In each case he shows how a love lost or not recognised previously is available in the current life; or a deep grief suffered in a previous life can be healed in this life. All of it with great love. It is love which is the bond and common factor.

A telling quote at the beginning is "our beliefs can be altered by the power ... of personal experience." When we experience something we can begin to understand it and our belief can convert into a knowing.

Chap 2 - Andrea recalled totally forgotten loving memories about her father from her early childhood. Then she describes incidents while she was in-utero, of her mother's loving excitement. Then she recalls a previous life where her older brother died before she knew him - causing a lifetime of gentle sadness. But he is her brother again in this life and they have a very close relationship.

Chap 3 - Two ladies independently describe their in-utero sensations and the knowledge they have there of their life path and its grand purpose. Both are able to see forward to incidents in their life which seemed coincidental but were in fact designed to happen for set purposes. Two women independently describe a life in ancient times: one was a Viking and killed a young girl in one of his raids; the other was a young girl being killed by a man "with horns". They are mother and daughter in this life - with the chance to heal without guilt or regrets - and have a loving relationship.

Chap 4 - We tend to grow up with lots of assumptions and beliefs imposed by others. We need to reassess all these to see if they are suitable or even true. There are differences between men and women - we need to learn to accept, honour and work with these. Difficulties are our best teachers. Relationships are where we grow most, and most easily - but they need lots of nurturing. He gives some very good tips on communication and anger

A lady recalled accidentally suffocating her crying baby during an Indian attack in the Old West, but went on to live a good life although never free of guilt, shame and self punishment. Some months after her regression she met a man who turned out to be the dead son reincarnated and he became her husband. Their love was able to heal all the old hurts and pain. Chap 5 - Unrelenting stress can cause us very serious medical problems; we need to relax. Holding on to anger and fear is much the same; it does us a great disservice. Fear blocks us from understanding and following our destiny. Although things do not always appear to work out on the physical plane, they always work out on the spiritual - and then eventually on the physical.

A closed mind can learn nothing new. The closed mind rejects anything that conflicts with old beliefs - even though those beliefs may be false. Hate and prejudice are born of fear and can cause untold violence. We need to learn not to judge others but to understand them and forgive and love. However, never accept abuse, be it from family, friends or church.

Chap 6 - Our natural state is the non-physical, the spiritual. When we incarnate it is harder for us and we forget who we really are. We forget that we are immortal beings and never die. So our goal is to remember who we are, and to live a life of the highest possible choices that acknowledge our true essence. "The world is given to you as a beautiful garden. You diminish the garden if you do not enjoy its fruits". We are surrounded by beauty all the time; it is up to us whether we choose to enjoy that or spend our life worried about the future or tormented by the past.

Chap 7 - The process of reincarnation involves learning not to use violence and hate but rather to show love and compassion. A primary soul goal is to learn our lessons which frequently implies overcoming karma. As we progress we get ever closer to freedom and enlightenment. This comes from love not from suffering.

Chap 8 - Each of us needs to show loving kindness every day, and eschew the violent, competitive attitude that society teaches us. Separating into "us" and "them" is a form of violence. To focus on the differences between peoples rather than the commonality inevitably leads to violence, sooner or later.

Chap 9 - All near-death-experiences and after-death-experiences involve a light and a sense of great joy and peace. Mostly there is a friend or relative there to welcome and comfort us. Life and love do not end when we experience physical death.

Chap 10 - We are all learners and all teachers. Some may have learned patience or forgiveness, but not how to deal with anger or violence. Doctors are in special need of learning - they tend to believe that they have all the answers when in fact they can learn from their patients. Many patients have left their body and witnessed events during surgery but their doctors frequently refuse to believe them. One elderly and fully blind lady was receiving emergency treatment for heart attack and left her body and "saw" all the procedures. After recovery her doctor patronisingly told her she had been hallucinating - till she described little details of some of his personal actions that she could not know without "seeing" them.

There are thousands of therapists who help clients regress to former lives; some of these have actually gone and verified the details from official records or gravestones. Dr Weiss believes that traditional psychotherapy and psychiatry are sterile and are of little benefit because they are unspiritual.

Chap 11 - How do we recognise true teachers from charlatans? Dr Weiss thinks we need to use our intuition. But even the best guru cannot give us happiness or enlightenment - that is something we have to do ourselves. We must take responsibility for both the good we do and the harm we do.

Chap 12 - Psychics and mediums are persons with strong paranormal gifts but they are still human and can err. They can even be very highly gifted but not ethical. So we must weigh carefully anything which they present to us. Those who wish to help and heal, without creating dependency, and without charging exorbitant prices, are probably sincere and real. He give ten guides for judging who are real and who are fakes.

Chap 13 - Extremely valid, helpful and enlightening messages from the "other side" can be received. The important thing about all these messages is that we do not "die". We are immortal and suffer nothing in the process called "death", and love continues from the other side.

He describes many extraordinary messages received by various people, famous and otherwise, including the story of Catherine's message to him from the Masters. Many stories are recounted of mediums who help people deal with grief and loss. These mediums tell details, many of them humorous, that it would be impossible to know by human means, but such facts help people accept the reality of the message. We can all receive messages if we listen internally and especially if we meditate frequently.

Chap 14 - In this chapter he explains in more detail how to meditate and gives a series of simple, useful exercises to help us achieve spiritual insights.

Chap 15 - God is not ignored in his philosophy and writings: God is love, peace, and the energy of the universe. The only religion is Love.
