Peanut and Tree-Nut Allergy Alert - Parent Letter Dear Parents,

We are sending this peanut and tree-nut allergy alert letter to notify you that a student in your child’s class has a serious peanut allergy - the food allergy that claims more lives each year than any other. Reactions can be life threatening; therefore, several safety practices will be in place to help prevent allergic reactions: 1. Students will wash their hands upon arrival to the classroom with soap and water and again before and after lunch.

2. The classroom will be designated as peanut /tree-nut free. This means that no peanut or tree- nut items; e.g., peanut butter, will be allowed and there will be no classroom projects with peanut butter or peanut shells.

3. Please do not send any peanuts, peanut butter, or foods made with/containing nuts or peanut butter to be eaten as snacks in the classroom. Please check the ingredients’ list on all food labels to be sure! It is fine to send these products for lunch as they will be eaten in the cafeteria.

4. In the cafeteria there will be a designated peanut-free table where any classmate without peanut or nut products can sit.

This plan will help to maintain safety in the classroom while allowing non-allergic classmates to enjoy peanut/nut products in a controlled environment. The tables will be cleaned with soap, water, and paper towels after each lunch. Allergy alert signs will be posted in designated areas.

We look forward to working together with you to have a wonderful school year. We appreciate your support and trust that you understand how deeply important it is to respect and adhere to these guidelines. If throughout the course of the year you have any questions or concerns about food- allergy-related issues, please contact either one of us. Please complete and return the bottom section of this form to the classroom teacher.

Wishing you and your family a safe and healthy school year!

Sincerely,

School Nurse Teacher Principal

------I have read and understand the peanut/nut-free classroom procedures. I agree to do my part in keeping the classroom peanut and nut-free.
