Objectives Learn Tools: Lasso, Magic Wand, Eraser. Begin to manage Layers within Photoshop Find out how to Transform objects (Scale, Rotate, etc.)

Product An image of a sandwich that contains at least 6 other food items that you have copied into the EmpytSandwich.psd

Lasso Tools (Selection tool) Magnetic Lasso is the most useful. It “clings” to the edge of an Object based on pixel color and value. You can also change the Frequency to help “trace” your object’s pixels.

Magic Wand (Selection tool) This tool also selects pixels based on color and value. Instead of “tracing” an object, it will select all pixels that Are similar according to the set Tolerance. Until it hits a pixel that doe not comply with the Tolerance

*Every Tool also has an Options Bar that appears below your Menu Bar when the Tools is in use

Eraser Tool (Clean-up tool) Erases pixels **If you have an active selection (running ants) you can only affect those pixels within the boundary of the selection.

You should be able to drag images from the Internet directly into Photoshop. It usually opens a new file for the new image. Firefox has troubles with this, drag to desktop and then drag to Photoshop. Once you have an image in Photoshop use the tools to modify as desired. When done you need to move the food item to your sandwich file, you can do this by dragging from one file to another with the Move Tool. The icon will change to include a pair of scissors – that is what you want to see.

Move tool Does just that – moves objects on a layer. YOU MUST BE ON THE LAYER THAT THE ITEM IS ACTUALLY ON!

Layers Each time you copy anything into a Photoshop file it is automatically put on a new layer! Layers order themselves Top to Bottom is visually Front to Back. So if you need an item closest to you it should be the Top layer.

Saving Do NOT save over EmptySandwich.psd rename the file and PAY ATTENTION to where it is saving! Leave the file as a .psd Format or you will not be able to edit your layers ever again…
