Students (grades 8-11) will be registering for next year’s classes this month. Be sure to discuss your student’s schedule with them at home. 2. There will be a Post Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) meeting for students and parents interested in taking college classes while in high school on Wednesday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the HS Commons. THIS MEETING IS MANDATORY FOR 1 PARENT AND THE STUDENT IF HE/SHE IS INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM FOR THE 2013-14 SCHOOL YEAR. 3. Jared Ebbing from Mercer County Community Development presented to seniors on November 20. He discussed the importance of our local talent (students) returning to the Mercer County area to live and work as adults. Our people are our greatest asset and are the key to keeping Mercer County a thriving community. Please visit their NEW website at: www.hometownopportunity.com. All students and Mercer County residents are encouraged to register for website updates (job postings, etc.)! 4. The Right to Life Oratory Contest is open to Juniors and Seniors and will be held on February 24 at 1 p.m. at Mercer County Hospital. The contestants are to research, write, and present an original "Pro-Life" speech on Abortion, Infanticide, Euthanasia, or Stem Cell research. The speech should address one of these topics directly, using other topics only as support. They are to present a 5 to 7 minute speech. The speech is to be an oration, and they may use notes. They will be judged in four areas: Introduction, Content, Presentation, & Conclusion. Apply by February 17. 5. Attention parents of college-bound seniors: If possible, try to file your 2012 tax forms before February 15, 2013. This is the FAFSA deadline for many Ohio colleges. (If you are unable to file by this date, don’t worry— you can estimate your AGI, etc. on the FAFSA and revise those numbers later. 6. College Goal Sunday will be held at Wright State Lake Campus on February 10, 2013. Get help filing your FAFSA online! Go to www.ohiocollegegoalsunday.org to register and get more information. 7. Planning a senior trip? You may want to avoid Saturday, June 15, 2013. That is the date of the FR Alumni Association’s annual banquet. All seniors are invited to attend, and if you are lucky enough to win an Alumni Scholarship, your attendance at the banquet is required. 8. Job Opportunities: 9. The public is invited to the LIMA CAMPUS SPRING JOB FAIR 2013. This event is hosted by Ohio State and Rhodes State College: Thursday, March 21, 2013, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Public Service Building Lobby).

Miscellaneous: 10. National High School Oratorical Contest (9-12): The purpose of the American Legion's National Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for the acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship. Students must speak and display knowledge of a constitutional amendment. Local and National Scholarships are available for the winners (up to $18,000). So, if you like public speaking, and you are interested in the amendments of the constitution, this might be for you. (Minster has had students win this competition in the past. Call Virgil Arling 419-628- 2675 if you would like more information.) Department winners must be certified by the beginning of March. 11. Did you know that Learning Express Library (http://www.infohio.org/ER/secure/LearningExpress.asp) has lots of FREE resources for you? Login information is on p. 33 of your student planner.  Academic Recourses (for Elem/MS/HS, diagnostic testing)  Job Exploration  Practice Tests (ACT, SAT, AP Exams, GRE, ASVAB Military Test, etc.) 12. All students who plan to go to college should take a college entrance exam. An ACT (or SAT) test score is a requirement for admission to many colleges and universities. Most colleges accept either the ACT or the SAT. FRHS students usually take the ACT (1-3 times). STOP BY THE GUIDANCE OFFICE AND PICK UP A YELLOW

13. FREE Practice tests:  Available in the Guidance Office  www.actstudent.org/sampletest, www.actstudent.org/onlineprep, or http://www.actexampracticetests.com  http://www.infohio.org/ER/secure/LearningExpress.asp. (This is a very good website and has practice AP exams as well!). Click on “Learning Express Library”. You will need to create a user account (username and password can be found on p. 33 in your student handbook).  The U.S. Army sponsors a site to help with test preparation: www.march2success.com. 14. ACT Prep Courses:  Edison Community College and Sylvan Learning Center offer classes to review math and English skills, test taking and time management tips, test questions and practice problems. The classes usually meet 6 weeks prior to each ACT national test date. 15. Attention: sophomores and juniors: Win a trip to Washington D.C.! See details in the Darke-Rural Electric Scholarship information. 16. Need counseling? I have lots of information on private counseling services in the area…just ask!

Summer Opportunities: 17. The Joyce Ivy Foundation is looking for high-achieving female sophomore s or junior s who would benefit from a scholarship to attend a summer academic program at an Ivy League or equivalent college. Since 2005, over 70 young women in Michigan and Ohio have been named Joyce Ivy Summer Scholars, enabling them to spend between two and eight weeks studying under faculty at leading institutions including Harvard, Brown, Yale, Columbia, Penn, Johns Hopkins, and Smith. Students are encouraged to apply for this great opportunity. Applications can be found at http://www.joyceivyfoundation.org. Deadline is March 15. 18. Wright State: Residential in a variety of majors (Science, Theater, Creative Writing, Forensics, Engineering, etc.) Call 937-775-3135.

COLLEGE AND CAREER INFO: 19. Seniors: don’t wait too long to complete your applications! You never know when school will be delayed or cancelled, so ask for letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc., well in advance! 20. The Ohio Veterinary Medical Association is sponsoring an Exploration Conference for both students and parents on February 23. This program is open to juniors, seniors, and undergraduate students. Register online at www.mvcinfo.org/students/VEC.html by February 15. 21. College and Career Fair at St. Marys High School: Tuesday, March 19 from 7-8:30 p.m. – over 50 businesses, colleges and universities will be represented. Learn about the military, employment, and education opportunities. Students and parents are encouraged to attend! 22. Articulated Credit: We currently have articulation agreements with some area colleges (WSU Lake, UNOH, for example) for FRHS courses in Accounting, PLTW, Ag, Tri-Star, etc. You need to ASK your college advisor if you can articulate any of your HS credits to college! This can SAVE you TIME and MONEY. 23. FRHS students can take an AP Exam (sign up is in March) to try to earn college credits. If you are taking an AP course, I strongly encourage you to study hard, and take the test!! Be sure to ask your college admission counselor about earning these credits as well. 24. Attention Juniors: Many allied health programs (nursing, dental hygiene, radiology, etc.), have pre- admission requirements (i.e. observation hours, specific coursework) and waiting lists. Make an appointment with a college advisor to learn more about the admission process and ask if you should apply in the spring of

2 your junior year. You should attend one of the President’s Day Open Houses to get more information on applying early! 25. Military recruiters visit FRHS (and homes) throughout the year. For additional information about a career in the military, visit http://todaysmilitary.com/careers.  Attention Juniors: Thinking about attending a military academy after graduation? You might want to attend a Summer Seminar to see what life as a cadet is all about. Go to the website of the academy of your choice and look under “Admissions” for more information. 26. Edison Community College is now offering a degree program in Mobile Powered Equipment. Call 937-778- 7887 for more information. 27. John Jay Center for Learning (affiliated with Ivy Tech State College and Indiana Wesleyan) in Portland, IN offers beginning-level college courses at a very reasonable cost Call 260-729-5525. 28. Interested in earning a CDL? Clark State Community College offers several programs for CDL drivers. Call 866.CDL.4185 or visit www.clarkstate.edu/truck_driving.php. 29. Ohio Northern University offers an engineering program that allows graduates to become licensed to teach math in grades 7-12. 30. At select universities (Bowling Green is an example), seniors can take the ACT at any time for the purpose of increasing their scores for merit-based scholarships. Students must be accepted to that university, and their scores will only be used at that particular university. Also, some schools will waive their application fee if the student applies online or tours their campus (Ohio Northern is an example). See an admissions counselor for details. 31. Prospective College Athletes who plan to play Division I or II sports must register with the appropriate clearinghouse. Both eligibility centers require that test scores (i.e. ACT) be sent directly from the testing agency. SEE MRS. KAISER IF YOU NEED TO REGISTER WITH EITHER OF THESE ATHLETIC CLEARINGHOUSES! To find colleges with your desired major, click on “school sort” > “undergraduate” and follow the prompts.  Check out http://www.collegeboard.com/ Click on “Students” to begin.  Another good website is www.voluntarysystem.org It gives you statistics about many colleges across the nation. These are great websites to help you narrow down your choices!  http://www.college.gov/wps/portal was designed by students for students, and features first-person accounts of students who have overcome challenges such as peer pressure, lack of family support, and financial barriers, to go to college.

SCHOLARSHIPS / GRANTS / LOANS: These are in order by due date. See Mrs. Kaiser for additional information. 34. Financial Aid Night was January 30. See Mrs. Kaiser if you missed the presentation and would like an informational folder. 3 35. If you are interviewing for a Midwest Electric Scholarship, you MUST provide Mrs. Wenning with a copy of the letter they receive stating their interview date and time to be excused from school. 36. FAFSA: All seniors planning to attend college this fall should file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): 1. Go online and obtain a PIN at: www.pin.ed.gov (2 PIN’s are required: 1 for the parent and 1 for the student). Parents who already have a PIN (used for a previously filed FAFSA) do not need another PIN. 2. Fill out the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet anytime after January 1st (you will need tax info.). You can print a hard copy by going to www.fafsa.gov and typing “fafsa on the web worksheet” in the search box. 3. File your FAFSA online at: www.fafsa.gov prior to February 15. (If your tax returns are not yet completed, it is okay to estimate on the FAFSA. You can go back and edit them later via the website.) There is a NEW enhanced feature called “IRS Data Match” that will save you a lot of time after your taxes have been filed—it pre-populates many of the field on the FAFSA. 4. Paper FAFSA’s (for students without internet access) can be obtained by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). 5. If you have extenuating circumstances that will affect your families income in the next year (job loss, death of a parent, possible homelessness, etc.), discuss it with a financial aid counselor at your college! They can work to re-assess your financial aid award. 37. Imagine America Scholarship for 2013 graduates: FRHS can select up to three students to receive this $1000 scholarship—FRHS will award this to the first 3 eligible students who apply each year. Only recent high school graduates who are qualified applicants and who meet the following recommended guidelines should apply: Likelihood of successful completion of postsecondary education, high school grade point average of 2.5 or greater, financial need, and demonstrated voluntary community service during the senior year Students must plan to attend a “career college” (such as Lincoln Tech or Kaplan) to be eligible. Students should visit the website for more information and a list of participating schools. Apply online at www.imagine-america.org. 38. Rhodes State Scholarship Opportunities:  “Rhodes to Success” Achievement Scholarship application is available in the guidance office Requirements include a 3.5 GPA and/or 24 ACT composite. Priority deadline is December 14, but applications will be accepted until May 1.  “Associate of Arts and Sciences Scholarship” is available for students who plan to attend Rhodes and then transfer to another college or university for their bachelor’s degree. Requirements include a 2.8 GPA and/or 21 ACT composite. Priority deadline is December 14, but applications will be accepted until May 1.  “Tech Prep” (Tri-Star, PLTW, Ag) graduates are also eligible for a $1000 Tech Prep Scholarship. These awards are renewable for all tech prep students who complete their first year at Rhodes with a 3.0 cum GPA or higher.  STEM Scholarship for seniors planning to pursue a degree in Information Technology or Engineering Technology: deadline is July 12, 2013 (for fall semester) and December 6, 2013 (for spring semester). 39. BGSU Scholarship: Bowling Green State University has a scholarship for incoming freshmen majoring in Biology. At least one $500.00 scholarship will be offered. If you have any questions you can contact 419-372- 2332 or [email protected]. Applications are due February 8, and are available in the guidance office. 40. Charles & Ruth Rabe Memorial Scholarship ($500-Sponsored by the FR Chamber of Commerce Scholarship): This is the first available local scholarship for 2013. Applications were passed out in World History class and are also available online. Deadline is February 8. 41. Wright State Lake Campus / Western Ohio Educational Foundation Scholarship Packets for the 2013- 2014 WOEF/Lake Campus scholarships for new, non-traditional, current, returning, and transfer students are now available online at www.wright.edu/lake/scholarships. Application deadline is February 15. 42. FFA Scholarships: S tudents do not need to be in FFA to be eligible. Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and civic activities. Over 1000 awards will be given. Applications are available online at www.ffa.org and are due February 15. 43. Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship ($500-$5000) is available to HS seniors and current college students. Applications can be found at www.jimmyranefoundation.org and are due February 15. 44. National Co-Op Scholarships are available to students entering a WACE partner college (University of Toledo and Cincinnati are examples) in the 2013-14 academic year. A recent FR graduate did receive one of these scholarships . You must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to apply. Visit www.waceinc.org for more information. Deadline is February 15. 45. Darke Rural Electric Cooperative Inc. (grade 10, 11, & 12): The Darke REC Inc. is awarding several scholarships:  The Darke Rural Electric Scholarship (up to $4000) is available to seniors whose parents are members. Personal interviews will be held March 4, 2013. **After applying, students MUST provide Mrs. 4 Wenning with a copy of the letter they receive stating their interview date and time to be excused from school. Deadline to apply is February 15.  The Touchstone Energy Scholarship (up to $2250) will be awarded to a senior that has overcome adversity, obstacles, or personal challenges on their way to excellence. Applicants’ parents must be members of a Touchstone Energy Ohio Rural Electric Cooperative. Deadline to apply is February 15.  They will sponsor two students (sophomores or juniors) for an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. but your parents must be a member of Darke Rural Electric. Deadline to apply is March 1. 46. Best Buy scholarship applications are available at http://pr.bby.com (type “scholarship” in the search box). Students need solid grades plus community service or work experience. Application deadline is February 15. 47. Stolly Insurance SUCCEED Scholarship ($750) is available to students who are currently enrolled in post- secondary education, or plan to enroll within the next year. Deadline is February 18. 48. Western Buckeye Chapter of Credit Unions (Coldwater) Scholarship will award 5- $500 scholarships. One of these winners will be eligible to win another $3000 scholarship at the state level. To qualify, the applicant must be at least a senior in high school and plan to participate in post-secondary studies, including professional, vocational, and academic studies that are not limited to colleges and universities. Applications must be submitted no later than February 22. 49. IAAP Scholarships  Scholarships for Office Professionals are a available to anyone pursuing an education as a business or office professional.  The Lois Ann Johnson Scholarship is available for individuals working in the administrative area for those organizations providing disabilities services as well as those planning a career in this field. The scholarship funds tuition or expenses related to professional licensing in the administration of disability services, legal service, social work, or advocacy of disability services. Applications are available in the guidance office or can be downloaded at www.iaap-wings.org (Wings Chapter>Scholarships) and are due by February 22. 50. Buick Achievers Scholarships are available to students who will be enrolling for full-time study at a 4-year college that plan to major in: science, technology, engineering, math, business administration, finance, marketing or design and are interested in a career in the automotive or related industries. More information can be found at www.buickachievers.com. Deadline is February 28. 51. Printing Industries Education Funds, Inc. is offering a scholarship to students seeking a career in the graphic imaging industry. Apply online at www.pianko.org and click on the Printing Industry Education tab > Application. Apps due February 28. 52. Farm Credit Service Scholarships: Farm Credit Services is offering a variety of scholarships to members, their dependents and spouses of the ag lending cooperative. These awards are available to graduating seniors as well as current college students. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic record, leadership and community involvement. To apply, go online to www.e-farmcredit.com and click on Community, then Scholarships (or call 1-800-444-3276 / 419-586-4229). Application deadline is February 28. 53. MED Foundation of Mercer Health Scholarship (grade 12): Mercer Health is offering a one year $1,500 scholarship to graduating seniors pursuing a career in the medical profession. The goal of the MED Foundation is to award one scholarship to each school in Mercer County. Applicants must have an ACT score of 23 or higher. Application forms are available in the guidance office. Applications are due February 28. 54. Sinclair Community College Scholarship Applications are available in the guidance office. They are due March 1. 55. James Kura Memorial Scholarship Essay Competition, sponsored by the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is open to seniors who are accepted to an accredited 4 year school for next year. See the website for more information: www.oacdl.org/scholarship. Applications are due by March 1. 56. Wabash Mutual Telephone is sponsoring two scholarship programs.  Educational Award Program ($3000): Applicant must be a child/legal ward of a Wabash Mutual Telephone member. GPA of 2.5 is required. Deadline is March 1.  Foundation for Rural Service ($2500): Applicants must be interested in returning to a rural community after college. A GPA with a C average is required. Deadline is March 1. 57. First Choice Credit Union, Coldwater will award two $750 scholarships to high school seniors (or current college students) who are members of a First Choice Credit Union, Inc. and are in pursuit of a post- secondary education of any kind, and is not limited to colleges and universities. Applications are due March 1. 58. Cooper Farms will award scholarships at each of its Ft. Recovery, St. Henry, and Oakwood facilities. This scholarship is open to all seniors, and applications should be submitted to the St. Henry facility by March 2. 59. Lincoln College of Technology Scholarships:  2013 High School Select- a $1,000 guaranteed tuition scholarship to a senior from FRHS (Tri-Star also can award a $1000 scholarship). Applications are due to Mrs. Kaiser by March 13.  Students take a scholarship test when they visit Lincoln Tech for additional awards

5  Apply for the Imagine America scholarship (see above) 60. Technical Majors: Midmark Corporation is offering one Technical Scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Darke, Miami, Mercer, Auglaize and Shelby county school. The scholarship is worth $20,000 and comes with summer employment opportunities and a full time position after the completion of their degree. There is a three year work obligation after graduation at Midmark. Eligible students must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following areas: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, and Management Information Systems at an accredited four-year institution. Deadline for scholarship applications is March 15. 61. The University of Dayton is offering up to $40,000 in scholarships for video submissions that tell about your future: What’s your plan? How will you make your mark?, etc. Visit www.facebook.com/universityofdayton/ for more information. The contest is open February 1 - March 15. 62. Leitzell Family Foundation Agricultural/ Horticultural Scholarship Award (Grade 12): It is the intent of this scholarship to provide financial aid to any individual from Mercer County, Ohio who shows continuous interest and enthusiasm in the field of agriculture or horticulture. Such interests could be manifested through active participation in such programs as 4-H, FFA, Scouts, etc. and must be continued into secondary education in appropriate career-oriented programs. The initial scholarship will be $2500 and may be renewable. The recipient must maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale for renewal. Applications must be returned to the FRHS Guidance Office by March 18. 63. Males entering OSU-Columbus in the fall 2013 are eligible for the “Better Man Scholarship” ($1000). The Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity sponsors this award for men who excel in leadership, extracurriculars, achievement, and have an interest in Agriculture. Recipients are not obligated to join the fraternity. Applications are due March 22. 64. South Shore Sportsman Club Inc. will offer two renewable $500 scholarships to high school graduates or college students pursuing a field in conservation and/or wildlife management, or fields related to these vocations. Applications are due March 31. 65. The University Women’s Club of Mercer County has 2 programs available for females planning to continue their education in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree:  Annual Scholarship Loans for $700 (renewable for 4 years) Repayment of these interest-free loans begins one year after termination of college.  Annual Scholarship Grant for $1000 Only one application is necessary for both programs. Mercer County Retired Teachers: This scholarship is open to students majoring in education (2 or 4 year program). Applicants must have a G.P.A. of 2.8 or higher and demonstrate financial need. Applications are due April 1. 67. William D. Squires Scholarships: The William D. Squires Scholarship is primarily need-based and is only for students from Ohio. (Each applicant must have an EFC (from FAFSA/SAR) of less than $8,000.) A minimum GPA of 3.2 is required. Applications are available at: www.wmdsquiresfoundation.org. Deadline for this scholarship is April 5. 68. The Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools (in conjunction with the Ohio Legislature) is awarding over 400 scholarships to 2013 graduating seniors. These awards range from $2,000-$44,000. Applicants must plan to attend one of the specific career-technical (Ohio) colleges listed on the application (Art Institute of Ohio, Brown Mackie ITT, Lincoln Tech, Miami-Jacobs, Kaplan, Virginia-Marti, etc.) to be eligible for these scholarships. All are associate’s degree or diploma programs…see poster for degree programs. Deadline is April 15. 69. B. Davis Scholarship ($1000): This website was developed solely for the purpose of helping students locate and apply for scholarships: http://www.studentawardsearch.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline is May 27. 70. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship Program ($1000): Open to seniors who: intend to pursue an animation related field at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Visit the website for more information: www.animationcareerreview.com, and search “scholarships”. Deadline to apply is June 1. 71. Aspiring Pharmacy Technician Scholarship Program ($1000): Open to high school seniors. Visit http://www.pharmacytechnicianreview.com/. The application link can be found on the right side of the page. Deadline to apply is June 1. 72. The Mercer County Civic Foundation has a small pool of student loan funds available to undergraduate students. These low-interest $900 college loans are renewable, and the 4% interest rate does not begin to accrue until 6 months after graduation from college, and are interest-free if repaid within that time. Interested students should call Glenn Hux at 419/586-9950 for an application. Applications are due by June 1. 73. Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants Scholarship: To apply for this $1,000 scholarship you will need to write an essay on the topic found on the website. The A&F Scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution who are

6 between the ages of 16 and 30. More information can be found at http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm. Registration deadline is June 14. 74. BigSun Scholarship: The BigSun Organization is offering a $500 scholarship to a student athlete. The successful applicant will be a high school senior participating in a sport OR be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution. AES Engineers Scholarship ($500-open to all majors): Applicants must answer one of the essay questions from the website at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Their belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason they are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted. Deadline is October 4, 2013. 76. American Legion Scholarships: Students can access the Need A Lift? College and Financial Aid Handbook online at www.needalift.org. This catalog lists scholarships, grants, and loans. It also contains extensive information on scholarships for veteran’s dependents. 77. The University of Findlay is offering $3000/year for 4 years to students who plan to major in math education through the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation. Call 1-800-548-0932, or email [email protected] if you have any questions. 78. 4-H Scholarships: Ohio 4-H offers a variety of scholarships to its members—most of these being for current year graduates and a few for members already attending college. Loans for Future Medical Students: The Medical Educational Foundation Academy of Medicine of Lima and Allen County is offering no-interest loans to assist with tuition while students are in medical school. The Ohio Board of Regents (http://regents.ohio.gov/sgs/index.php) sponsors several programs for college- bound students (deadline dates/dollar amounts may change: see the website for the most up-to-date information): You can also reference www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov.  Ohio College Opportunity Grant: students must attend an Ohio public university MAIN campus and have an EFC of $2190 or below. Apply by completing the FAFSA.  Ohio War Orphans Scholarship: for children of deceased or severely disabled Ohio veterans who served in the armed forces during a period of declared war or conflict. (Death or disability need not be a result of/or related to military service.) Applications are available from the Ohio Board of Regents. Due: July 1.  Ohio National Guard Scholarship: 100% tuition and general fees at all Ohio public colleges and universities  Ohio Safety Officers College Memorial Fund: for children and spouses of peace officers, fire fighters and certain other safety officers who are killed in the line-of-duty. Applications must be requested from the Ohio Board of Regents or the college financial aid office.  Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program: up to $5,000 for four years of study, but must agree to work as a nurse in the state of Ohio for a minimum of five years after graduation, must file the FAFSA, then apply online for the NEALP.  Choose Ohio First Scholarships: are available at many Ohio colleges. These scholarships are for students majoring in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine) career or planning to teach 7 disciplines related to STEM. Students wishing to apply for these scholarships must do so through the university’s financial aid office.  Ohio Education and Training Voucher Program: must be in foster care, or adopted from foster care The following programs are Federal programs, and are available by filing the FAFSA:  PELL Grant: for students with an EFC of $4995 or less.  TEACH Grant: up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private school that serves students from low-income families (this is a federal program, not an Ohio program)  Federal Work Study: offers federally-funded student employment opportunities at college. Most Local Scholarship Applications (Fort Recovery) will be distributed to seniors this month in World History class. The local scholarships on the Guidance Homepage are from LAST YEAR, and will not be updated for the class of 2013 until February-March. 84. Don’t get scammed--watch for warning signs!  You have to pay a fee or “taxes”  Credit card or bank account information required  Money-back offers or guarantees  Provides “exclusive” information  Unsolicited emails or phone calls Report scams to the proper authorities. I have information on several of these (BBB, Attorney General, National Fraud Information Center, etc.) if needed. 85.
