Energy Project (WESP)

The proposal had been written by Jason and was in the development stage. Brian Morgan’s protégée was helping Jason for a few hours per week and providing links into West Sussex.

Jason was also receiving peer mentoring from OVESCO and BHESCO, who have funding to train other groups to create energy projects. Sussex Energy Saving Partnership and Carillion are also joining in with it. Funding is available from lots of sources.

Jason would be attending a meeting in Hastings with Greg Barker MP and Community Energy South and they would be looking at the Worthing Energy Shop proposals and funding for a pilot scheme.

Steve suggested that we approach West Sussex Environment and Climate Change Board Jason?? as West Sussex have signed a deal with Carillion to do retrofit projects. There are action plans on the Board website.

Energy Shop – a high street premises was needed to advise the general public on energy related matters and would hopefully provide a base in Worthing for TTW.

Supporting the project was Worthing Borough Council’s Energy Switch project, The Eco Open House Trail and Worthing Homes’ Relish Project.

VAW had offered to train fundraisers and had suggested that TTW needs a legal structure. Pauline suggested we meet with Rachel Spotswoode to look at how this might be achieved. It was agreed to send an email to all members to summarize the direction in which TTW was now going and that we needed to look at our legal structure in order to support our exciting new projects and fundraise. Jason would send a summary to Steve to send out to members, Jason which would also include a request for volunteers to do fundraising training. Steve

Jason would put a video about community energy on the TTW website. Jason

Jason would approach Law-works to see if we could get help with setting up a legal Jason entity for TTW.

Eco Open Houses

Pauline explained how the Eco Open House Trail had been set up and that it was partnered by Brighton Permaculture Trust, Low Carbon Trust and Bristol Green Homes – the latter had given funding for advertising and admin. Worthing Homes and Worthing & Adur Council had also been very supportive. The Trail would take place on the 12/13 April in Worthing and on 27th April in Steyning – organised there by Steyning 10:10.

Tuppenny Barn meeting:

Katie volunteered to go to this meeting as the TTW rep. Katie

Seed Swap

Big thanks to Barbara and Michelle for a fantastic day. There would be a feedback meeting on 3rd March at Love Food. Southern Water would be sponsoring the Seed Swap for the next 3 years.

Barbara would give John a list of expenses for the Seed Swap. Barbara

OVESCO’s light bulb board had been broken by a gust of wind and Katie would look at Katie insurance to see what the excess is and see if we could claim for it, or to take the money out of TTW funds/money raised from Seed Swap.

Barbara reported that Worthing Town Centre Initiative was interesting in supporting the Beach Clean.

TTW Monthly Meetings

Anne and Pauline would do March – it would be a presentation and include the film about Mark Boyle and the Moneyless Manifesto.

FarmDrop

Anne and Pauline had had lots of conversations with other stall holders at Seed Swap about FarmDrop. Hazel Thorpe asked if we could do a presentation about it to Worthing Lions, maybe have a stall at the annual conference and do a report to the Council.

On March 21st Food Sovereignty Sussex would be holding a gathering of local farmers in Lewes and wanted FarmDrop to present as one of the local campaigns to support local growing.

The Council are not going to run the allotments any more and WAM (Worthing Allotments Management) would be running them instead, which could mean that allotment holders might be able to sell surplus produce. Anne would report the valuable outcomes of Seed Swap to Michelle. Anne

The FarmDrop platform would soon be ready. John and Anne would be testing the system that week. The launch date was the end of March and then there would be a supplier meeting at Love Food.

We had been invited to take part in Worthing Food Festival on 23/24 August.

Health and Safety

It was suggested that Chloe or Liane take on the role as Child Protection Officer for TTW.

Steve would look at our Health and Safety policy. Steve

AOB

TTW was asked if they would like a stall at St Andrews Coffee Morning on 7th March. Rod was doing a Fair Trade stall there. Pauline and Jason would try to be there.

Liane had been asked if TTW wanted to have a stand at Worthing Hospital Sustainability Day on 27th March and she had agreed to represent TTW Wellbeing Group there.

Jason would be printing off TTW fliers and energy surveys at VAW. A re-write of the leaflet was needed.

A request for funding of the 20’s Plenty campaign was denied because TTW has many projects to fund and no money to spare for them.

Date of Next Meeting

Monday 10th March, 7.30pm - Beechwood Hall Rod would chair and Jason take the minutes.
