RE: Summer Fee Scholarships for Graduate Assistants & Fellows

Information for you regarding Summer Fee Scholarships for graduate teaching/research assistants and DA fellows:

PLEASE BE AWARE: Funding for Summer Fee Scholarships for Graduate Assistants and DA Fellows has to come from departmental resources if the department wishes to offer one. There is no automatic assurance that someone with a fall/spring or a spring/fall assistantship will have summer funding.

1) Students need to get registered for their approved Summer classes as soon as possible. I will not process their paperwork until they are registered.

2) After the Credit Approval Form is signed by your dean and the department’s UBO, please have it sent to me, so that I can load the scholarships into Banner.

3) I will set up the summer scholarships on the same index code as the spring semester, unless you tell me otherwise. Generally, they are on the same index code, but in case you need to charge them to another index, please inform me on the Credit Approval Form.

4) Please feel free to change the wording in the letters to fit a TA or an RA or DA Fellow.

Attached is a copy of the award letter which must be prepared for any eligible graduate student you wish to receive the summer fee scholarship. Students must accept the scholarships in writing and be registered before scholarships will be disbursed. NOTE: The second sentence of the first paragraph of this letter may be modified to meet condition #2 in the previous letter.

This letter is to officially award you a summer fee scholarship for the 2017 Summer Semester. This is with the understanding that you have been a graduate assistant Spring Semester 2017 and have been awarded and accepted a reappointment as a graduate assistant for the Fall Semester 2017 and will be enrolled for the 2017 Summer Semester. You have been awarded this scholarship based on previous academic achievement or potential for success in graduate education and/or financial need.

Please confirm in writing within two weeks whether you will accept or decline this award. This award will not be finalized until we have received your Credit Approval Form. Please send your acceptance to the address below. Also, you must be registered before this award will be disbursed.

We wish to extend to you our congratulations on being selected for this award. We hope you will be able to make progress toward your educational goals as a consequence.

Summer credits not to exceed the number of weeks, plus two (example: an 8 week course, plus two credits, for a maximum of 10 credits allowable for that 8-week session). Undergraduate credits require departmental/program approval.
