Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed term contract position in the area of Creative Education and the audio-visual sector research. The position is available for a period of two months.
Key responsibilities will be to carry out an in-depth review of the Audio-visual sector in the peripheral regions of Europe. The researcher will also have an in-depth appreciation of the role of Education in the Creative Sector. Both strands are interlinked through the NPP funded Creative Edge project. The aim is to map the third level education infrastructure of the island of Ireland in an effort to gauge its preparedness to exploit creative economy growth. The post holder will be responsible for an education audit, the compilation of data relating to courses and qualifications geared at future creative industry workers. This will involve a policy review, survey, qualitative interviews and analysis, and data collection. The researcher will be able to analyse critically the development of a creative sector while also investigating the role of education in the future development of the creative sector more broadly. The ability to design and deliver surveys as well as carry out face to face interviews will be of the utmost importance. The post-holder will work with Dr James Cunningham, Director, Whitaker Institute and Dr Patrick Collins in the School of Geography and Archaeology, the principal investigator for this funded project .
Essential Qualifications: A PhD qualification in the Social Sciences, preferably in the area of Human Geography/Sociology. Experience of conducting qualitative studies. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Evidence of the capacity for independent research at a high level.
Desirable requirements: Experience and knowledge of creative industries and creative education. Experience in, writing and disseminating policy reports. Evidence of having disseminated academic work to societal stakeholders. Previous research experience Involvement in scholarly and discipline-based organisations. High levels of initiative and an ability to co-supervise a project Salary: €21,850 - €25,330 per annum (Public sector pay policy in relation to new entrants will apply)
