Prayer Concerns for St. John S s4

PRAYER CONCERNS FOR ST. JOHN’S THE CHALICE For the sick: Roberta, Roger Giacomini, Teresa Santiago, Bill Hinton, Irena, Geralynn The weekly Sunday Bulletin of St. John’s Episcopal Church Marchesi, Philip Wulfken, Christine Bushnell, Jean Giacomini, Cheryl Hairr, Anna Felter, Martha June 7, 2015 Kee, Marta Dovi, Mark Bellissimo, Brain A., Frank Elliot, Kathy, Tom, Karin, Bill Wesp, Milton Dove, Josephine Anne Ferreri, David, Rev. Robert Johansson, Robert Earley, Sharon Hinnant I walk in emptiness; I hear my breath….I am walking, light as any handful of aurora; I am light as sails, a pile of colorless stripes; I cry “heaven and earth indistinguishable!” and the current underfoot carries me and I walk. Annie Dillard The Altar Flowers are given In Thanksgiving for Thomas F. Czizik, the gift of Nancy Schuman; In Loving Memory of James Hannah, the gift of Diane Hannah; In Loving Memory My wife Barbara and I just returned from a pilgrimage in Northern Spain. We walked every day of Bertha & Frank Lasek, the gift of Dave & Nelly Lasek. on a road they call the Camino (in Spanish, the way). Several hundred thousand pilgrims walk across Spain every year to Santiago where St. James was laid to rest. One of the best surprises The Perpetual Light is given In Loving Memory of Bertha & Frank Lasek, the gift of Dave & during the trip was how all the pilgrims encouraged each other. We all felt the pain in our knees Nelly Lasek. and the blisters on our feet. We all had a shared experience as pilgrims and felt a common bond. We constantly felt uplifted by our fellow companions on the journey and we noticed that we just had to put one foot in front of the other and we would just begin to go. To have someone entered onto our Prayer List for 4 weeks, please e-mail the church office with the person’s name as well as the requester’s name. The e-mail address is: I prayed for this parish at each of the monuments that were set at one kilometer intervals. [email protected]. Walking, thinking about where we are going as a parish, and praying for those who needed my prayers all became part of my daily routine. I soon began to feel a greater and greater connection Last Sunday attendance: 131 to the Lord. There is a timeless feeling when heaven and earth intersect and a peace that follows. I feel renewed and excited about the path that God calls us to at St. John’s.

For my wife and I, exercise and a healthy diet will continue to be a part of our daily walk. Clearing our heads and focusing again on what is important will help us to keep putting one foot in front of the other. We are very thankful for being here at St. John’s and come back from pilgrimage with a renewed spirit and energy to follow God’s will. Although many in our culture no longer see Christianity as an essential way, we are determined to continue loving the Lord and our neighbor.

My hope is that your journey will continue to be centered on the love of Christ and that your faith will be strengthened. I believe more than ever that our children, youth, and young adults need encouragement to follow this path and to experience the love of God. Many of you have given your lives to this church and the Lord. When you know the path that you are following, you just need to put one foot in front of the other. Annie Dillard writes about pilgrimage as a mixing of heaven and earth and how the Holy Spirit is like an escalator under our feet, keeping us moving forward.

I encourage everyone in this parish to walk this summer on a regular basis, to eat a healthy diet, to follow the Lord in prayer and worship, and to love one another as Christ loves us. We are all pilgrims on a journey and we need to encourage one another
