Discussion Items Topic: ALL PERKINS MEETING Discussion Leader 1 Perkins Budget Narrative Requests 2015-2016 Teresa Ong Discussion Detail 1. Each Perkins Program’s budget narrative request was reviewed alongside the Perkins Allocation Spreadsheet with columns listing all programs 2013/2014 actual expenditures, 2014-2015 allocations, 2015-2016 budget requests and Tri-chair recommendations. Each program dean, director and/or representative discussed their program’s requests, tri-chair recommendations and adjusted allocation request per discussion. Some specific highlights included: -Diagnostic Medical Sonography is requesting a test proctor for the off-site Santa Rosa testing center. Other funds will be examined to cover this need. -Environmental Horticulture- will use more Foundation funds this year and reduced their Perkins request. Noted: This program will request future Perkins funds in subsequent years; - Paramedic- program operates through entire 12 month school year; teaches, manages and supervises over 100 students in clinical settings, gets backlogged without part time faculty non-teaching assignments, this is a serious need and deemed a first level priority is we are allocated more than anticipated grant funds. -Veterinary Technology discussed their need to hire TEA’s to feed and care for the program’s animals while college campus is not in session. This was deemed as a second level priority if grant funds are more than expected. - Accounting has a need for restructuring the program and revamping curriculum. Since they are employing mostly part-time instructors there is a need for professional development training and possible non-teaching assignments for curriculum development. This was deemed a third level priority if the grant allocation exceeds expectations. -Applied Photography- has a need to hire and employee to supervise and deal with hazardous materials. Also they are trying to hire a temporary employee this year (not with Perkin’s funds) to assist with the duties performed by the late Rick Knepp, who passed in December 2014. -Graphics and Interactive Design- he program director is retiring later this academic year. It is uncertain as to who will be managing this program. Their requests will be reviewed by the Fine Arts division which will provide as much possible funding out of that operating budget. 2. The Perkins request allocation spreadsheet was revised and will be emailed to all members to review and make suggestions. The final revision will be reviewed at the next WWG meeting to be held in March. Documents/Handouts/EMAIL 1 Perkins 2015-2016 Program Budget Narrative Requests
