University of Colorado Law School Silicon Flatirons Research Associate Specializing in Intellectual Property Reform

Colorado Law’s Silicon Flatirons Center (“Silicon Flatirons”) is seeking an individual to work as a Research Associate specializing in Intellectual Property Reform (the “IP Research Fellow”) for a one-year term. The priority deadline for applications is May 15, 2008, though applications will be accepted on an on-going basis. The start date is also flexible, beginning as early as July 2008. The IP Research Fellow will spend the majority of his or her time conducting research and writing articles or reports of publishable quality on the impact of the patent system on the software industry in particular, and patent reform in general. He or she will support grants and/or contracts in connection with Silicon Flatirons’ projects, including grant-writing efforts to help secure funding for relevant initiatives. The IP Research Fellow will lead and support Silicon Flatirons’ cross-campus initiatives concerning intellectual property, including working with stakeholders in other disciplines and campus departments as well as in the surrounding community. He or she will assist CU Law faculty and staff in organizing conferences, talks, and meetings with lawyers and policymakers. Finally, the IP Research Fellow will also be responsible for working with students on IP issues from time to time.

An ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree or a Ph.D. Preferred qualifications include experience with technology or intellectual property law in general, and experience working with both small and large software companies. Previous work on patent reform is desirable.
