This flyer provides information for the Beginning string student Your teacher will be Mrs. Kennedy

1. What instruments are in the Orchestra? a. In Orchestra we offer four different instruments: violin, viola, cello, and string bass

2. How, when and where do I get an instrument? a. Call or visit your local music store for pricing and rental information b. Check with family members – they may own one you could borrow for the year c. Look in the newspaper want ads d. Check pawn shops e. Rent an instrument from the school

3. How do I rent a school instrument? a. You must fill out an application on the first day of school b. Applications must be turned back to Mrs. Kennedy by Thursday of the first week of school! No Exceptions`

4. Will I get a school instrument if I fill out an application? a. Maybe yes, maybe no b. Applications are decided on the neediest first c. There are not enough school instruments for everyone who applies for one d. There is a maintenance fee charged for each instrument 5. How do I find my local music store: a. Look in the yellow pages of the phone book under “music stores”

6. When should I rent an instrument? a. You can rent one now.

7. How much will it cost to rent an instrument from the music store? a. The cost depends on the type and size of the instrument b. Violins and violas rent from $14 - $25 a month c. Cellos rent from $25 - $45 a month d. String Basses are unavailable through most music stores – apply for a school instrument 8. Are there any other costs to be in Orchestra? a. Yes, you will need to purchase supplies (rosin, shoulder rest, extra strings, and 2 books) b. The books we will use are: Essential Elements for Strings 2000 Bk 1 and Concert Tunes book 1
