Intramural and club sports are huge on Maryland’s campus. If you’re interested in starting a team, get some friends together and sign up at www.crs.umd.edu . If you don’t have enough to form a whole team, just ask around; existing teams are always looking for more members!

Also, don’t forget to check out the varsity teams on campus! Football games in the fall semester and basketball games in the spring are exciting ways to get into the Terp spirit!  Greek Life

Rushing (the process by which students decide what fraternities or sororities they would like to join, and the fraternities and sororities decide which students they would like to join) occurs at the beginning of each semester. Most fraternities and sororities will allow students to rush each semester until the second semester of their sophomore year. This gives you the opportunity to rush multiple times if you do not feel that you have found the right organization for you. To get more information about specific fraternities and sororities, you can find their websites at http://www.studentorg.umd.edu/

Once rushing begins, there will be fliers all over campus, but you can get more specific and detailed information from the fraternity or sorority website.

Set Yourself Up for Success

At the University of Maryland we have a number of resources available to help students academically...

The Math Success Program offers free math tutoring in Easton Hall and at the Stamp Student Union several days a week.

The Writing Center in Taliaferro Hall can help out a lot when you’ve got a tough paper to write.

The Learning Assistance Service, located in the Counseling Center in the Shoemaker Building, offers many different programs to suit your academic needs, including workshops about time management and studying for midterms and finals.

Community Service-Learning

Community Service-Learning can be a highly rewarding experience for college students, as well as being extremely helpful to the local community.

Community service is a popular co-curricular activity for many Maryland students. In fact, Maryland’s Community Service-Learning Program is rated 17th in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report.
