Perry 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\pt\2087mm04.doc 11 12 Introduced in the House on May 20, 2004 13 Adopted by the House on May 20, 2004 14 15 Summary: South Aiken High School Boys Golf Team 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 5/20/2004 House Introduced and adopted HJ-4 22 23 24 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 25 26 5/20/2004 27 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 APPLAUDING THE SOUTH AIKEN HIGH SCHOOL 12 “THOROUGHBREDS” ON THEIR THIRD CLASS AAAA 13 STATE TEAM GOLF TITLE IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS AND 14 SENIOR CAPTAIN PATRICK CUNNING WHO TOOK TOP 15 INDIVIDUAL HONORS IN A SUDDEN-DEATH PLAYOFF. 16 17 Whereas, South Aiken High School’s golfers teamed up for a score 18 of 888 and an eight-point win at the Furman University links to 19 take the Class AAAA South Carolina team title; and 20 21 Whereas, the three-round total was the second lowest tally posted 22 in the tournament in the past thirty years; and 23 24 Whereas, the championship crown was the third for the 25 “Thoroughbreds” in the past five years, and their fifth state win 26 overall; and 27 28 Whereas, Coach Jeremy West noted that all his “guys” had a 29 “pretty good two days” to fashion the team win; and 30 31 Whereas, individual honors went to senior Captain Patrick 32 Cunning, the first South Aiken medalist since Brennen King’s 33 back-to-back wins in 1994 and 1995; and 34 35 Whereas, All-Stater Cunning’s win came on the par 5 second hole 36 of a sudden-death playoff, set up by a short chip inside six feet of 37 the cup; and 38 39 Whereas, second to Cunning’s even-par 72 was the 75 posted by 40 senior alternate Robert Cross; returning starter for 2005, All-State 41 Eric Radford tied for sixth, Ian Price finished in a tie for 11th, and 42 Jayson Hinkson finished in the top twenty; and
1 [5338] 1 1 2 Whereas, the State of South Carolina is proud to acknowledge the 3 dedication and discipline of its athletes. Now, therefore, 4 5 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 6 7 That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, 8 by this resolution, applaud the South Aiken High School 9 “Thoroughbreds” on their third Class AAAA state team golf title 10 in the past five years and senior Captain Patrick Cunning who took 11 top individual honors in a sudden-death playoff. 12 13 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 14 South Aiken High School “Thoroughbreds” Golf Team and Coach 15 Jeremy West. 16 ----XX---- 17
