USTAR Announces RIoT Event at UVU
On Thursday, Feb. 25, the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative (USTAR) will hold its Robotics and Internet of Things (RIoT) event from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Utah Valley University (UVU). The event will serve as an introduction to the USTAR RIoT program and will outline the current state of the IoT, the potential it presents for Utah companies and what challenges must be faced in order for the world to connect.
The RIoT event will kick off with a morning keynote presentation from Brad Walters, CEO of Monnit, a provider of wireless sensor solutions targeted at the commercial, industrial and consumer markets. Following Mr. Walters remarks will be additional speakers and panel discussions featuring topics such as using augmented reality with IoT, infrastructure for IoT and leveraging existing hardware, platforms and API’s to get to market faster. Matt Eyring, chief innovation and strategy officer for Vivint, will give the closing keynote.
“ Anytime UVU can play an active role in bringing industry and educational leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs together, we are all in,” said Cameron Martin, vice president of community relations for UVU. “We are proud to partner with USTAR to produce the RIoT event. These events provide our students and entrepreneurs an inspiring and rich learning experience to better prepare them for innovative opportunities.”
Grow Utah Ventures has partnered with USTAR to provide a $1,000 cash prize for a RIoT challenge, in which teams of engineers and innovators will compete with Monnit Sensors and Thingsworx Software to create a consumer product that could go to market. The cash prize will be awarded to the winning team at the end of the event. Finalists will also be enrolled in the RIoT Concept to Company contest in the spring.
