CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE Athletic Communication Internship
The Athletic Communication Internship is a four-month appointment, running from mid- January 2016 to mid-May 2016. The purpose of the position is to provide office and game- day assistance to the Chestnut Hill College Athletic Communications Coordinator (ACC), as well as, assist in the publicity and promotion of Chestnut Hill College and its 21 athletic programs (18 NCAA DII, 1 NCAA Non-Divisional, 1 Non-NCAA, 1 Varsity Program)
Specific duties include writing and editing press releases, game stories, game programs, in- game statistical work, and reporting results to appropriate media outlets, as well as, assisting in home event management and maintenance of the athletics website.
This position requires availability on nights, weekends, and some travel. This four-month appointment pays $6,000.
Position: Athletic Communications Intern Reports to: Athletic Communications Coordinator
Purpose: Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Athletic Communications Intern is responsible to aid the Athletic Communications Coordinator in all functions of the Athletic Communications Office.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred, sport management or communications. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in a sports information office, either as a student assistant or intern (1-2 years).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A willingness to work week nights and weekends. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a variety of individuals; college administration, members of local and national media, faculty, students, staff, parents, alumni, etc. Knowledge and/or familiarity with the NCAA rules and statistical guidelines. Knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office software programs. Knowledge and familiarity with Stat Crew, the Automated Scorebook. Knowledge and familiarity with Adobe Photoshop. Experience working with a Content Management System (CMS) for Web Site management.
Responsibilities: Generating content for Athletics Website and Website management. Writing and disseminating department news and information via official press release. Producing Department Literature (Game-Day Programs, Media Guides, Camp Brochures, Admissions Brochures, etc…) Nominate and Vote student-athletes, coaches, and administrators for awards of recognition. Game-Day Responsibilities; o Spotting: Calling statistics for in-game recording. o Statistical Recording: Data input using Stat Crew. o Postgame Communications: Dissemination of box scores and postgame materials to opposing institutions, local media, and conference office. o Public Address: Pregame and in-game announcing. o Game Management: Assist in set up and take down for events. o Clock Operation: Controlling game clock for events. o In-game Photography: As needed and/or during special events.
