PURPOSE OF JOB: (Briefly state the primary purpose of the job in terms of how it contributes to the department’s objectives.)

The Detroit Future City Implementation Office serves as the steward of the Detroit Strategic Framework 50-year plan for Detroit. The Director of Community and Economic Development will work closely with the Executive Director in executing the 5-year business plan and specific goals related to single family rental housing systems, commercial corridor systems, analysis and development models for obsolete industrial sites, and community planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (List job duties and responsibilities in order of most complexity and/or time spent to the least.) ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 A strong understanding of community and economic development models and industry players in Detroit and nationally.  Ability to provide consultation, oversight and management of strategies related to single family rental, commercial corridors, adaptive reuse, and planning.  Ability to manage and facilitate collaboratives and working groups of various community and economic development stakeholders  Work in tandem with Detroit Future City leadership, City of Detroit, DEGC, stakeholders and community audiences to synthesize and coordinate efforts.  Participate in grantwriting, development of white papers, and data analysis on single family rental housing, commercial corridor development and adaptive reuse.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION / TRAINING: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Urban Planning, Community Development, Business, Real Estate, Public Policy or related field

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES:

YEARS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 10 years’ experience in Detroit or other urban center
