In This Time of Waiting for the Revelation of the Lord

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR A

Invitation to Prayer: My brothers and sisters, in this time of waiting for the revelation of the Lord, let us pray for the dawning of salvation upon ourselves and all who are in need.

Concluding Prayer: Come, O God of majesty and power, amid the clamour of violence, upon a world made dark by sin. Keep us watchful and awake for the advent of that day when the sounds of war will be for ever stilled, the darkness of evil scattered, and all your children gathered into one. Through Christ our Lord. Or: Come, O Faithful God; come throughout the confusion and uncertainty of life and remain close to your people. Come and make us ever vigilant in prayer and good works. Come and make us alert to the presence and advent of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL First Sunday of Advent - November 27, 2016 - Year A

Deacon or Reader: The response is: “Come, Lord Jesus, come!”

1. For the Church, community of believers who celebrate the presence of Jesus in the world today as they await his return in glory; for those who work for a unified witness of all Christians to God’s love; and for all the clergy, who exercise the ministry of Jesus among us. Come, Lord, and show us your mercy.

2. For leaders of nations and the pursuit of peace and justice in a broken world; for victims of war, violence and natural disasters; and for the repealing of unjust laws that permit the destruction of innocent life. Come, Lord, and show us your mercy.

3. For the unemployed and the working poor; for those stricken with AIDS; and for all who bring the hope and love of Christ to others. Come, Lord, and show us your mercy.

4. For all Christians, called to keep awake and prayerful until the Lord’s return; for the sick and injured; for those who work for healing among peoples and nations. Come, Lord, and show us your mercy.

5. For the people in our communities who feel lost, unnoticed or unloved; for the homeless, the lonely and the dejected; and for those searching for truth and faith. Come, Lord, and show us your mercy.

6. For the physical and spiritual well-being of all parishioners; for our loved ones and friends; for all who have died recently,

and for the deceased members of our parish. Come, Lord, and show us your mercy. PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL First Sunday of Advent - December 1, 2013 - Year A
