Team 842 Team Expectations

August 2012

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to Mountain Ridge Middle School. We are eager to share many rewarding and fun-filled activities with you and your child. At this time we would like to inform you of some of our team policies, which will help ensure a safe, positive, and productive learning environment throughout the year.

1. Honesty is always the best policy. We will set our standards high when it comes to students being honest. Academic dishonesty, which includes cheating, copying answers on assignments, and sharing test information, will not be tolerated and consequences will be given.

2. Students will exhibit courtesy and respect towards others and themselves.

3. Students are expected to be in their seats and ready when class time begins. Two tardies per class will be excused each quarter. The next tardy will result in a detention.

4. Students should come to each class with appropriate class materials including homework, books, notebooks, writing instruments, and calculators.

5. All textbooks must be covered throughout the year.

6. Team teachers emphasize spelling, penmanship, and neatness on all assignments.

7. Personal grooming should take place outside of class.

8. Students should use restrooms, drinking fountains, and pencil sharpeners before class begins. Students may not go to their lockers during class.

9. Student grades and homework may be accessed at any time by using our intranet online. Students are encouraged to check their grades using Infinite Campus at least twice a month. You can access Infinite Campus from our school website or from our district website: www.asd20.org. The team will do a formal grade check at mid-quarter.

10. Homework assignments are given by all academic teachers on a regular basis. It is the team’s feeling and part of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme curriculum that homework and good study habits are an integral part of a student’s education.

11. Due to new MRMS procedures, late student work will receive no more than 10% off. For our team, late points will be tallied in the “Life Skills” section of each teacher’s gradebook.

12. According to MRMS procedures, if a student has late or incomplete work, they will be expected to stay after school the following day for ASH (After School Help). Please make arrangements to have your student picked up at 4:30 pm.

13. All of the teachers will maintain high expectations and will emphasize organizational skills and use of a planner. Planners will be checked on a regular basis and may have a grade attached.

14. When a visiting teacher (substitute) is in a classroom, the students are to follow the visiting teacher’s rule; always treat a visiting teacher as a guest. If a visiting teacher finds it necessary to report disruptive behavior to the office or to the regular classroom teacher, all offenses will be investigated and dealt with immediately.

15. Anytime school is missed it is the student’s responsibility to get and turn in make-up work. After being absent, on the day the student returns, he/she must check with all teachers whether that class block meets Team 842 Team Expectations that day or not. Remember that absences due to school activities should be treated as pre-arranged absences. In other words, a student who is on a field trip in or out of school is responsible for all work as if they were in class that day.

We feel that success in school depends on a shared responsibility between home and school and therefore, would appreciate your help in emphasizing our team rules and those in the student planner. Please acknowledge these expectations by signing the sheet below. Feel free to include any comments you might have.

You may reach us at school between 7:45 and 8:30 at 234-3200. Email is the best way to reach us. When e-mailing us please put your student’s name in the subject line. Our team website can be found at http://mrms842.pbworks.com and is the best place to find team announcements, academic calendars, and assignments.

New for this year--both Math and Enrichment classes may be off-team; that is, your child may have a teacher different from the 842 team teachers. When contacting your child's teachers, please be sure to include any possible off-team teachers. We will discuss more of the off-team possibilities at Back-to- School night.

Thank you for your support!
