Visitors: Mike Millet-WVC Police, Eric Bronhum- WVC Public Works, Stephanie Leffler- teacher, Pat Barton-teacher, Holly Haymond- parent, Christine Kent-teacher.

Meeting commenced at 4:15.

The following is a summary of comments made during the meeting:

Sharon had tentatively planned a safe walking assembly. Mike advised her that the SNAP group is done doing the live presentation for this school year. There may be an option to watch a video.

Sharon: On Friday, December 8th 12-15 students were observed using the crosswalk on Richardson Lane where the incident happened.

Holly-Kids are doing okay using the crosswalk. Traffic on 6000 W. is a problem. Drivers are not slowing down. Holly Proposed a calming zone be put in place.

Pat- When calming zones were put on 4300 S. high school students sped up to go over them or else went around them. Pat proposed the idea to extend the school zone past Wolverine Way. Construction vehicles are speeding down 6000 W.

Eric- Reduced speed zone can only be within a certain distance of a crosswalk.

Mike-Traffic is designed to be slowed at the crosswalk.

Eric-A crosswalk can be painted at Wolverine Way.

Mike-According to the report he read the accident was an isolated event incident to factors out of control of the driver.

Joey-Witnessed the accident and was first to respond. She said child was in the crosswalk when he was hit.

Eric- Will make some observations to see if the crosswalk on Richardson Lane warrants having a crossing guard.

Junior high students use the cross walk on Richardson and then come to the elementary to pick up students.

Stephanie-Extra duty will be added to the afternoon. Mike-They will try and enforce traffic speeds more actively. They will also enforce a no parking zone next to the crosswalks.

Eric-No parking signs will be placed near school driveways.

It was proposed that a 4-way stop sign be placed at Bona Dea and Long Valley. Eric will do a traffic study to see if the area warrants the stop sign. There is a stop sign on Long valley and large dips on Bona Dea that slow traffic down.

Eric-Flasher speed signs can be put to the north of Richardson Lane to encourage people to slow down. The percent of people speeding goes down with the placement of the flashing speed signs.

Mike-The goal is for students to arrive safely.

Kristi-Will check to see if there is any type of campaign that will help reach out to the community.

Mike-If the majority of kids would walk it would cut down on the amount of cars at the school and on the roadway. He encouraged the community council members and visitors to look into the walking school bus app (SNAP) that is secured through UDOT.

Sharon-Will provide community outreach at the December sing-a-long.
