What: Growing Healthy Families Day

When: Saturday, June 30, 2007 10am to 4pm

Where: 2133 Belvidere Road, Waukegan, IL 60085 Belvidere Discount Mall

Why: The day will be filled with activities and health screenings to teach families how to be healthy and active in order to promote family bonding.

Join us for a fun filled family fair at the YWCA Lake County’s Growing Healthy Families Day, June 30, from 10am to 4pm. The event is free to those who come. YWCA Lake County will also present The Najwa Dance Corps, an interactive dance workshop exploring African-American history through dance, beginning at 11:30am, and story tellers Tony and Kucha Brownlee who will be presenting their story, “Jumpin’ Jumbalaya,” beginning at 3pm.

YWCA Lake County’s Growing Healthy Families Fair will span both the Belivider Mall and the Belvidere Park, and will include family activities such as soccer, softball, face paining, moonwalk machine, and limbo contests. There will be workshops on family gardening, holistic healthy eating, personal safety by the Waukegan Police Department, free health screenings from the Lake County Health Department including diabetes and blood pressure, and free massages. Some workshops will be presented in English and Spanish, translation will also be provided. The Waukegan Fire Department has also been invited to give their Simulated Fire Escape demonstration.
