Input & Output Devices:

The boundaries of a computer do not end with the case. The printer, which is outside of the computer, is still part of the computer. Also; remember that the location of a device has nothing to do with its designation as output or input.

A device’s relationship with the computer determines whether a device should be considered input or output. If the devise supplies the computer with information it is an input device. (The keyboard for example). If the computer is supplying the device with information then the device is an output device.

 When an audio card is built into the motherboard we say the audio card is “onboard” or that the motherboard has “onboard audio.”

 When an Ethernet/internet card is built into the motherboard we say the ethernet card is “onboard” or that the motherboard has “onboard Ethernet.”
