School District of Bayfield Notice of Board of Education Meeting Monday, July 25, 2011

1. Call to Order: The regular school board meeting of the School District of Bayfield Board of Education was called to order by Board President Craig Hoopman on Monday, July 25, 2011, 6:02 p.m., in the school library.

2. Roll call of school board members: School Board members present were Craig Hoopman, Cindy Garrity, Billie Jo Johnson, Jackie Merila, and Jennifer Leask.

Absent & Excused: Deb Knopf and Brian Goodwin.

3. Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of allegiance was said.

4. Confirmation of Meeting Posting: Sheila Kelly confirmed postings.

5. Approval of the Agenda

Motion by Cindy Garrity to approve agenda as presented, second by Jennifer Leask. Motion carried.

6. Audience/Written: Barbara Hoekstra stated her disappointment with the short notification regarding the Superintendent Search Focus Groups.

Deb Knopf and Brian Goodwin arrived at 6:04 p.m.

7. Approval of School Board Minutes – May 13, June 13, July 11, July 18, 2011.

Motion by Deb Knopf to approve board meeting minutes from May 13, 2011 as presented, second by Billie Jo Johnson. Motion carried.

Motion by Billie Jo Johnson to approve board meeting minutes from June 13, 2011 as presented, second by Jennifer Leask. Motion carried.

Motion by Deb Knopf to approve board meeting minutes from July 11, 2011 as presented, second by Cindy Garrity. Motion carried.

Motion by Cindy Garrity to approve board meeting minutes from July 18, 2011 as presented with correction, second by Deb Knopf. Motion carried

8. Communications/Report:

8.1 Board President & Members: Thank you letter from the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce

8.1.1 Finance Committee: Review of Finance Committee held July 21, 2011.

8.1.2 Policy Committee: Review of Policy Committee held July 21, 2011.

9. Financial Accounting

9.1 Approval of Vouchers

Motion by Jackie Merila to approve voucher numbers 56992 thru 57175 and check numbers 101100017 thru 101100019 as presented totaling $765,114.00, second by Billie Jo Johnson. Roll Call Vote: Billie Jo Johnson- Yes; Deb Knopf-Yes; Cindy Garrity-Yes; Craig Hoopman-Yes; Jennifer Leask-Yes; Jackie Merila-Yes; and Brian Goodwin-Yes. Motion carried.

10. General Business 1 10.1 UNFINISHED BUSINESS

10.1.1 Discussion of 2011-2012 District Priorities: Achievement and Curriculum Expansion, Attendance, and School Climate and Behavior.

10.1.2 Consider 2nd reading of Policy 343.3 Virtual Education (Online Learning), 343.3-Rule Virtual Education (Online Learning), 343.3-Exhibit (2) Student Application – Online Learning, 343.42-Rule Guidelines for Awarding High School Credit for Youth Options Program, 345.1 Grading Systems, 660 Guideline for the Employment of Support Staff, Coach Hiring Policy, Expanding Opportunities for Learning – On-Line Courses Policy, Expanding Opportunities for Learning – Student Contract, Virtual School Handbook, PEP Program Virtual School Newsletter, Virtual School Personal Education Program (PEP), Alternative Education Teacher Position Description.

Motion by Cindy Garrity to approve second and final reading of Policy 343.3 Virtual Education (Online Learning) as presented, second by Brian Goodwin. Motion carried.

Motion by Jackie Merila to move the approval of the Alternative Education Teacher Position Description to the August 8, 2011 board meeting, second by Cindy Garrity. Motion carried.

10.2 NEW BUSINESS

10.2.1 Consider New Teacher Recommendations: No teacher recommendations at this time.

10.2.2 Consider National Association of Federally Impacted Schools (NAFIS) Membership

Motion by Deb Knopf to approve National Association of Federally Impacted Schools (NAFIS) Membership in the amount of $2223.00 as presented, second by Billie Jo Johnson. Roll Call Vote: Billie Jo Johnson-Yes; Deb Knopf-Yes; Cindy Garrity-Yes; Craig Hoopman-Yes; Jennifer Leask-Yes; Jackie Merila-Yes; and Brian Goodwin-Yes. Motion carried.

11. Adjournment

Motion by Cindy Garrity to adjourn meeting, second by Deb Knopf. Motion carried.
