1.4 SUBMITTALS

4.A. Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

4.B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including: 4.B.1. Preparation instructions and recommendations. 4.B.2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations. 4.B.3. Installation methods.

4.C. Fire-Retardant Treatment Certification: Treating plant's certification of compliance with specified requirements.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

5.A. Wood Treatment Plant Qualifications: Wood treatment plant experienced in performing work of this section licensed by Fire Retardant Chemical Technology.

5.B. Source Quality: Obtain treated wood products from a single approved source.

5.C. Fire-Retardant Treatment: Mark each piece of plywood and lumber to show Compliance with specified standards.

06 05 73.13-2 5.D. Regulatory Requirements: Provide for retardant treatment which complies with the following regulatory requirements: 5.D.1. International Building Code (IBC). 5.D.2. International Residential Code (IRC).

5.E. Independent Third Party Inspection: 5.E.1. Provide plant inspections.

5.F. Kiln Dry after Treatment (KDAT): Provide kiln dry material as indicated or required. 5.F.1. Kiln dry after treatment to 19 percent maximum moisture content for lumber and 15 percent for plywood in accordance with AWPA T1, Section H - Subsection 3. Drying Requirements.

1.6 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

6.A. Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

7.A. Exposure: Protect wood products against moisture and dimensional changes, in accordance with instructions from treating plant.

7.B. Avoid exposure to water and the elements, at the job site or in storage. If materials become wet during installation, allow lumber to dry to 19 percent and plywood to 15 percent moisture content before covering or enclosing.

7.C. Handling: Handle materials to avoid damage.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS

8.A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.9 SEQUENCING

9.A. Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.10 WARRANTY

10.A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Provide manufacturer's standard 20-year limited warranty for pressure-treated FRTW wood.

PART 2 06 05 73.13-3 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

1.B. Substitutions: Not permitted.

1.C. Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01 60 00 - Product Requirements.

2.2 MATERIALS

2.A. Dimension Lumber: As specified in Section 06 10 00 - Rough Carpentry.

2.B. Structural Plywood: As specified in Section 06 10 00 - Rough Carpentry.

2.C. Finish Lumber and Plywood: As specified in Section 06 20 00 - Finish Carpentry.

2.D. Fasteners and Metal Hardware: Provide corrosion resistant steel fasteners with Hot-dip zinc coating per ASTM A153/A153M, provide corrosion resistant hardware per ASTM A653 / A653M Class G-185 in compliance with building code requirements.

2.E. Fasteners Used with FlameTech Fire-Retardant Treated Wood: Fasteners must be galvanized steel, stainless steel, in accordance with 2009 and 2006 IBC Section 2304.9.5, 2009 IRC Section R317.3 or 2006 IRC Section R319.3.

2.3 FIRE RETARDANT PRESSURE TREATMENT OF LUMBER AND PLYWOOD

3.A. Fire retardant treatment for wood, including roof and floor trusses, roof decks and sheathing; subflooring, beams and purlins, blocking and furring, studs, joists and paneling, architectural millwork and trim, interior non-load bearing partitions, and exterior load-bearing wall. 3.A.1. Lumber: Comply with AWPA U1 UCFA, Type A. 3.A.2. Plywood: Comply with AWPA U1, UCFA, Type A. 3.A.3. Surface Burning Characteristics: Class A; or flame spread and smoke developed ratings of 25 and 450 respective or less in a test of 30 minutes duration in accordance with IBC section 2303.2. 3.A.4. Treatment: FlameTech FRT as manufactured by Fire Retardant Chemical Technology. (FRCT). 3.A.5. Kiln dry after treatment of 19 percent maximum moisture content for lumber and 15 percent for plywood. 3.A.6. Treat wood used for the following applications: 3.A.6.a. 06 05 73.13-4 Roof and floor trusses. 3.A.6.b. Roof decks and sheathing. 3.A.6.c. Subflooring. 3.A.6.d. Beams and purlins. 3.A.6.e. Interior non-load bearing partitions. 3.A.6.f. Studs and joists. 3.A.6.g. Exterior load-bearing walls protected by weather barrier. 3.A.6.h. Millwork and trim.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

1.A. Fire-Retardant Treated Wood: 1.A.1. Compliance: Comply with manufacturer's product data, including product technical bulletins, product catalog installation instructions and product carton instructions for installation. 1.A.2. End cuts and drilling are permitted. Do not rip or mill lumber after fire-retardant treatment.
