3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

3.1.1 Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

3.1.2 If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2 PREPARATION

3.2.1 Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

3.2.2 Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.2.3 Installations Over Open Studs: 3.2.3.1 Apply paper-backed galvanized metal lath specified to the wood studs using galvanized nails or staples every 6 inches (152mm) vertically on stud centers with a minimum penetration of 3/4 inch (19 mm). Overlap lath sides no less than 1 inch (25mm) and ends no less than 1 inch (25mm). 3.2.3.2 For metal studs use corrosion-resistant self-tapping screws with a 3/8 inch (10 mm) head which provides a minimum 3/4 inch (19 mm) penetration beyond the inside metal surface.

3.2.4 Installations Over Wood Substrates: 3.2.4.1 Cover the approved wood substrate with a weather resistant barrier specified. Lap joints by applying felt horizontally with the upper layer lapped over the lower layer not less than 2 inches (51 mm) and end laps not less than 6 inches (152 mm). Install specified metal lath in accordance with manufacturer's requirements. Use galvanized lath for exterior applications and black metal lath for interior applications. 3.2.4.2 Lap lath sides not less than 1 inch (25 mm) and end laps not less than 1 inch (25 mm). Lath must be attached with the small diamonds pointing upwards. On inside and outside corners, overlap at least 16 inches (406 mm) in each direction. 3.2.4.3 Attach metal lath specified using 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) minimum galvanized nails or Staples on 6 inch (152mm) centers penetrating each wall stud a minimum of I inch (25 mm) 3.2.4.4 Apply a mortar scratch coat of 1/2 inch (12.5 mm) nominal to cover the metal lath. Scratch surface when somewhat firm. If the scratch coat dries before applying the stone, the scratch coat should be remoistened by misting it with water.

3.2.5 Installations over Rigid Insulation Board: Coordinate with rigid insulation specified under Section 07 21 26 - Blown Insulation. 04 73 00-20 3.2.5.1 Cover the approved insulation substrate with a weather resistant barrier specified. 3.2.5.2 Lap lath sides not less than 1 inch (25 mm) and end laps not less than 1 inch (25 mm). Lath must be attached with the small diamonds pointing upwards. On inside and outside corners, overlap at least 16 inches (406 mm) in each direction. 3.2.5.3 Attach metal lath specified using 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) minimum galvanized nails or Staples on 4 inch (102mm) centers penetrating each 16 inch (406 mm) on center wall stud a minimum of 1 inch (25 mm). 3.2.5.4 Apply a mortar scratch coat of 1/2 inch (12.5 mm) nominal to cover the metal lath. Scratch surface when somewhat firm. If the scratch coat dries before applying the stone, the scratch coat should be remoistened by misting it with water.

3.2.6 Installations over Metal Panels: Coordinate with metal panels specified in Section 07 42 13 - Metal Wall Panels. 3.2.6.1 Cover the approved metal panel substrate with a weather resistant barrier specified. Lap joints by applying felt horizontally with the upper layer lapped over the lower layer not less than 2 inches (51 mm) and end laps not less than 6 inches (152 mm). Install specified metal lath in accordance with manufacturer's requirements. Use galvanized metal lath for exterior and interior applications. 3.2.6.2 Lap lath sides not less than 1 inch (25 mm) and end laps not less than 1 inch (25 mm). Lath must be attached with the small diamonds pointing upwards. On inside and outside corners, overlap at least 16 inches (406 mm) in each direction. 3.2.6.3 Attach wire lath using corrosion-resistant self-tapping screws with a 3/8 inch (10 mm) head which provides a minimum 1/2 inch (13 mm) penetration beyond the inside metal surface. 3.2.6.4 Apply a mortar scratch coat of 1/2 inch (12.5 mm) nominal to cover the metal lath. Scratch surface when somewhat firm. If the scratch coat dries before applying the stone, the scratch coat should be remoistened by misting it with water.

3.2.7 Installations over Clean Untreated Masonry: 3.2.7.1 On newly poured concrete examine the area for release agents (form oils). 3.2.7.2 Where present, the surface must be etched using an appropriate acid or Sand Blasting. Surface must be rehydrated with water prior to installing stone. 3.2.7.3 In areas where masonry substrate cannot be adequately cleaned, attach metal lath with corrosion-resistant nails or other approved fasteners

3.2.8 Installations over Painted, Sealed or Dirty Masonry: 3.2.8.1 Clean the surface down to the masonry by sandblasting, pressure washing, acid etching or wire brushing before installing stone veneer. Surface must be rehydrated with water prior to installing stone 3.2.8.2 In areas where masonry substrate cannot be adequately cleaned, attach metal lath with corrosion-resistant nails or other approved fasteners.

04 73 00-21 3.3 INSTALLATION

3.3.1 Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

3.3.2 Seal manufactured stone in areas of abnormal moisture contact and exposure to chemicals such as magnesium chloride (ice melt products). Use an impregnating breathable class of sealer as specified, and apply per manufacture recommendation, in areas of abnormal moisture exposure.

3.4 PROTECTION

3.4.1 Protect installed products until completion of project.

3.4.2 Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
