WTOL-TV’s Chrys Peterson to be Honored at Medical Mutual’s Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch

TOLEDO…In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Medical Mutual of Ohio is sponsoring a breast cancer awareness brunch on Saturday, October 1, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Toledo. The brunch, which honors and celebrates breast cancer survivors, is free and open to the public.

WTOL-TV news anchor Chrys Peterson will be honored with the Debra Greene Award in recognition of her work to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention. There also will be a style show featuring fall fashions presented by local boutiques The Sophia Lustig Shop and Sophie’s Sister.

The event will feature a variety of opportunities for breast cancer survivors, family members and friends to view and purchase the latest in fall fashions, hats, purses and other items from local vendors. “This event is a celebration of life to help breast cancer survivors feel special about themselves by having luxuries and fun things to pamper and entertain them,” said Doug Bennett, Director, Community Relations and Outreach for Medical Mutual.

Doors open at 9 a.m. The brunch will begin at 10 a.m. and will be followed by inspirational remarks by breast cancer survivor Pam Downour, presentation of the Debra Greene Award, and style show.

Downour is a 2011 In Celebration Honoree of the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Peterson will be recognized for her long-time work helping to boost awareness of breast cancer issues and her support of efforts to raise funds in support of organizations that deliver treatment, services and education throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. The Debra Greene Award is named after a long-time Medical Mutual employee and breast cancer survivor who was responsible for establishing an annual breakfast in Cleveland more than 12 years ago as a support group for fellow employees fighting breast cancer.

Seating is limited. Reservations are required and can be made online at www.medicalmutual.com. Reservations also can be made by calling 216-687-7852.
