Welcome to Our School, New Teacher!

Today will be a day of learning some things you need to know about our center in a fun and adventurous way!

You are going on a scavenger Hunt! Attached you will find a series of directions to help you get oriented with the center and other general things you will need to know to be successful with us. Along the way, we hope you will have fun, meet some of your co-workers and maybe even find a treasure or two.

Good Luck and have FUN! If you should have any questions or get stuck at any point, please come to the front so that a member of our management team can help you get back on track.

We are excited to have joined our team and look forward to getting to know you better.

Off you go…

1. Go back to the kitchen and introduce yourself to our cook. This staff member will show you around the kitchen; where to store your lunch, drinks, ect; where to find the classroom snacks after nap and give you a brief layout of where the supplies are kept. Bring a boo-boo/ice pack to the Assistant Director. 2. While in the front lobby, ask the Assistant Directors to show you where staff messages and/or the staff mailboxes are located.

3. Find a Time-Off Request Form. Fill this out- either with a day you already know you will need off OR just make up a day. Step into the Infant Nursery and introduce yourself to our teachers. Ask one of them what you should do with your time off request once you have filled it out.

4. Go to the where the art supplies are kept and pull out a sheet of any color of construction paper--preferably your favorite! Take it to the teachers in a Toddler room and introduce yourself.

5. Locate a Teacher Computer. Briefly type up a few “snippits” of information about yourself that you’d like to share, for example: your birthday, hobbies, where you are from, your family, and pets that are a part of your life. Be sure to use your name as the title. Staple this piece to the construction paper and take it to our Pre-K teachers. Ask these teachers to show you where the staff Bathrooms are.

6. Go back to an Assistant Director and ask where important information is posted for all staff. While there, locate the date of a training class or staff meeting that is posted there.

7. Go to the Two Year Old’s classroom and introduce yourself to those teachers. Ask them to tell you something about themselves. The ask one of them to explain how we use our Communication Logs in the classrooms.

8. Go to the 3 Year Old’s classroom. Say hello to these teachers and spend a little time talking to them and with the children. Ask one of these teachers to show you where the Fire Route/Escape plan is located and where to find the Fire Extinguishers. Also, have them explain our procedures for our Monthly Fire Drills.

9. Head over to our 4 Year Old’s classroom. Ask these teachers to show you where the Allergy List is posted in the room and ask them to explain why we have it.

10. Go to another Two’s classroom. Ask one of the teachers to show you the Parent Information board and ask them what documents they must keep posted on it. Then ask where the Laundry Room is located AND when your classroom’s Laundry day is scheduled.

10. Go to any Preschool Classroom. Ask one of the teachers to walk outside with you and briefly show you the playgrounds. While you are out have them point out where to take the trash everyday. Note: You will need a manager to step in to cover ratios while you are outside with the teacher.

11. Head over to One Year Old Classroom and introduce yourself to the teachers. Have them share their favorite thing about their job. Also have them show you their Transition Forms and explain how to fill them out.

12. Return to our PreKindergarten classroom and ask one of the teachers to show you their lesson plans and explain the procedures for completing them and posting them.

13. Return to an Infant Nursery. Have a teacher / caregiver explain the different spray bottles that are located next to the changing table. 14. Head back up to the front office. Grab the Assistant Director . Ask this staff member if our center has any Resources for teachers to use to complete lesson plans and creating bulletin boards. Spend some time looking through this information. Make a copy of an activity or idea you would like to have in your classroom next week!

15. Look around the front lobby and locate the phone number provided to report any concerns of Abuse or Neglect. Locate the Center’s license while you are there. Ask the Director to show you where in the Licensing Regulations Manual you would find the section regarding the laws for reporting Abuse and Neglect. **Remember where this book is located!

16. When finished, take your scavenger hunt page to the Director’s Office. Make sure you are able to tell the director about your experiences of today. Ask the director to tell you why she loves being a part of our school! Finally ask any questions you may have about what you saw on your “journey”.

Congratulations! You have successfully completed your New Employee Scavenger Hunt. You Deserve a prize!!
