Being creative with ingredients

Task – to work in groups of four to design an exciting and interesting main course dish using either beef or lamb. The designs should be carefully sketched, coloured using realistic colours, and well annotated.

Criteria:

 Must contain either beef or lamb;  Should be suitable for a main course dish;  Should combine elements of different culinary traditions (fusion food);  Should contain at least two portions of fruit or vegetables;  Should be served with a starchy carbohydrate;

1. Each pupil should be given a printed A3 sheet. The sheet will be divided into four sections with a fifth box in the middle of the page. 2. Each pupil sketches their first design in box number 1. Allow 8 minutes for this. 3. The piece of paper is then passed to the right and the next pupil draws a modified version of the original design in box number 2. Allow 5 minutes for this. 4. The piece of paper is then passed again to the right and the next pupil draws a modified version of the second design in box number 3. Allow 5 minutes for this. 5. The piece of paper is then passed again to the right and the next pupil draws a modified version of the third design in box number 4. Allow 5 minutes for this. 6. The piece of paper is then returned to the original pupil who then sketches a final design (based on all the changes made) in the middle box. Allow 8 minutes for this. 7. Then the final design should again be drawn up on a separate A4 sheet in detail with colour and annotation. They should also devise an ingredients list and write out a detailed recipe using recipe books or websites as a guide.

The class could then discuss their designs.
