Please join Stanford University alumni for a Panel Discussion on Environmental and Social Sustainability, and what it means to New Yorkers. We have lined up 3 excellent speakers:

 Rohit "Rit" Aggarwala (Columbia BA, MBA, PhD; Queens College MA) is Director of the NYC Office of Long-term Planning and Sustainability within the Mayor's Office of Operations. Rit is in charge of sustainability in NYC. Rit's office is charged with creating a long-term sustainability plan to ensure New York City's continued prosperity, growth, and health for the year 2030. On Earth Day 2007, PlaNYC was introduced.  Geoffrey Heal (Cambridge BA, MA, PhD) is Paul Garrett Professor of Public Policy and Corporate responsibility and Professor of Finance and Economics at the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University, Professor in the School of Public and International Affairs, Co-Director of Columbia's Center for Economy Environment and Society and of the Earth Institute's Center for Globalization and Sustainable Development. He is particularly interested in the interface between economics and ecology, and the extent to which profit-oriented companies can contribute to the solution of social and environmental problems.  Richard Cisterna (Stanford MS) is a Senior Associate at Hazen and Sawyer, a leading environmental engineering firm dealing with a broad spectrum of water infrastructure and sustainability services. Rick leads the firm's Corporate Reclaimed Water Strategic Initiatives and directs reclaimed water projects in the Northeastern United States.

Moderator: Howard Rosenberg (Stanford BS, MIT MS) is President of Novomont Ventures, a consulting firm providing advisory services for sustainable technologies. Howard's focus is on helping businesses understand that the great shift towards sustainability provides significant new business opportunities that can provide financial, environmental, and social benefits.

Is there Hopenhagen after Copenhagen? Professor Jeffrey Sachs, noted author and Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia will discuss the current landscape for sustainable business investment.

The Columbia Business School Alumni Club of New York invites you to an evening with Professor Jeffrey Sachs to discuss investment opportunities in the wake of the Copenhagen summit. Professor Sachs will speak on the role of the private sector in driving sustainable investment and offer his thoughts on:

 Where these opportunities exist in the face of political gridlock.  How the business community can participate in the development of the sustainability market.  The sweet spot for investors, i.e. where business can contribute to sustainability, environmental justice and increased profits.

Professor Sachs is the Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University. He is also Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. He was recently named among the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.
