A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Honor and Loving Memory of Rev

A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Rev. David Alexander Atty. WHEREAS, Rev. David Alexander Atty was born August 7, 1951, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the cherished son of the late Dr. Alex and Mary Jane Heider Atty; and WHEREAS, a 1969 graduate of Pottsville Area High School, he received his B.S. in engineering from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (now Philadelphia University) in 1973. He would go on to earn his Master of Divinity degree from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, and was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in 1979. He was elevated to the Dignity of Archpriest in 1988 and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 2008; and WHEREAS, Rev. Atty's first pastoral assignment was as Youth Director of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Troy, Michigan, in 1979. He would go on to serve St. Michael the Archangel Antiochian Orthodox Church in Louisville, Kentucky, from 1980 to 2010, and he also was the Dean of St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, Pennsylvania, until his retirement in 2013; and WHEREAS, Rev. Atty's accomplishments were many. He was instrumental in the establishment of St. Andrew Antiochian Orthodox Church in Lexington, Kentucky, and Holy Apostles Antiochian Orthodox Mission in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was active in the Louisville law enforcement community and served as the Head Chaplain for the

Jefferson County Police Department, which earned him Volunteer of the Year accolades. He was also Chief of Chaplains for the Louisville Metro Police Department, Chaplain for the Louisville Office of the FBI, Chaplain for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and Chaplain for the McMahan Fire Department. He was Dean of the Ohio Valley Deanery, Dean of the Diocese of Toledo and the Midwest, and the Society of Orthodox Youth Organizations Spiritual Advisor. In 2000, he received the Millennium Maker Award for his outstanding civic contributions; and WHEREAS, on March 23, 2014, Rev. David Alexander Atty departed this earthly

life and entered the gates of Heaven, leaving his family, friends, and all the church communities with which he shared his loving presence in solemn mourning; and WHEREAS, Rev. Atty is survived by his wife of 34 years, Olga Nehrebecki Atty; his children, Katherine Brasowski (Nicholas) and Alexander; his brother, Ferris (Jody); his sister, Jennie Gelles (Richard); 21 nieces; 20 great-nieces; and his church family at St. Michael the Archangel who will dearly miss him; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby express their most profound and sincere condolences upon the passing of Rev. David Alexander Atty, and extend their heartfelt sympathy to his family in this time of loss.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory, honor, and appreciation of the life and legacy of Rev. David Alexander Atty.

 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Morgan McGarvey.
