Curriculum Area: Humanities
The Humanities curriculum area offers a wide range of subjects including Religious Studies, History, Geography, Travel & Tourism and Government and Politics. Students are given a rich range of learning opportunities in this area which will help build their skills and support higher attainment and progress in all subjects and phases of learning.
At GCSE all students select either History or Geography as a core subject, and RS as an option subject. AQA is the examination board for all three qualifications.
Student outcomes and levels of progress were strong across the area in the last academic year with over 70% of students gaining an A*-C in Religious Studies and 69% in History. All three subjects can be studied at A-level, with the addition of Government and Politics. Results here are also strong with 100% of candidates gaining A-C grades in A2 History and Government and Politics in the last academic year.
Crucial to increasing future student attainment and progress will be the high quality of teaching delivered by professionals who have excellent subject knowledge at all stages of learning, and are able to engage students they teach.
The Humanities department is situated on the second floor of the academy (Stewart College). Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard and access to iPads, online video streaming and iPad

Staffing
The Humanities team is a vibrant team of professionals, with varied levels of experience. We welcome new members of the team who are not afraid to introduce new teaching and learning methods, or try new ideas that change, and challenge, how students learn.
Currently there are 18 teachers in the department. The department is led by the Curriculum Leader, with additional leadership support from a Deputy Curriculum Leader, Lead Teachers and Associate Lead Teachers.
With the support and direction of a strong leadership team, the Humanities department is able to support new teachers, and provide opportunities for more experienced practitioners to develop their skills and career. You will be joining an academy that is building a very successful specialist area and also has the opportunity, resources and freedom to promote innovation and reward talent.
