CLASS TITLE: PROJECT DIRECTOR (California Virtual University Grant)

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Vice President, Academic Affairs, the Project Director will serve as project leader for the California Virtual Community Campus (CVC) Staff Development Center, a partnership among El Camino College (lead), Santa Monica College, and Santa Rosa Junior College that will serve the California Community College System.

The director will plan, establish, organize and manage a virtual community to develop and disseminate distance education standards, training resources and evaluations of best practices among distance educators. The director will also oversee the development and deployment of a Web-based catalog of distance-education courses offered by community colleges and other participating institutions. The director will coordinate and supervise all personnel involved in these activities in order to satisfy the goals and objectives of the California Virtual University Grant.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Develop a virtual community network through the CVC Staff Development Center that addresses both informational and professional development needs of California Community College employees teaching and providing assistance and support in managing higher education courses and services.

Establish, organize and maintain an Electronic Resource Library.

Provide information, data and resources to practitioners to assist them in maintaining current knowledge of off-site instruction by participating in statewide efforts, coordinating and collaborating with CVU Regional Center Directors, the Chancellors office and other applicable programs.

Ensure that the California Community Colleges are aware of and remain current with the latest developments in standards and protocols that affect distance education program implementation.

Promote the creation of higher education networks that will facilitate students' use and access to off-site higher education opportunities.

Conduct workshops in conjunction with other CVU Regional Centers to disseminate information to California Community Colleges' faculty, staff, and administrators on topics and issues that affect distance instruction. Project Director (California Virtual University Grant) (cont.) Page 2

Hold annual conferences so California community college employees benefit from state – of-the-art information.

Maintain an up-to-date Web-based catalog of distance-education courses offered by California's community colleges and any participating four-year institutions.

In cooperation with the Chancellor's Office and the CVU Regional Centers, assist in evaluating the effectiveness of all the California centers and in preparing an annual report to the State Legislature.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires the equivalent to a Masters' degree in any discipline and three years of relevant teaching experience in a post-secondary institution and one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience.

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomical, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

Management Salary Schedule - Range 16 Board Approved: July 19, 1999
