1.4 Organization

Structure 1.4.1 The NS is non profit organization financially support by Zagreb City Libraries, Zagreb City Government and Croatian Ministry of Culture. NS has president, secretary general and an Executive committee of fifteen members: authors, illustrators, translators, researches, editors and librarians.

1.4.2 Our NS is the part of Zagreb City Libraries ( nettwork of 46 public libraries ). 1.4.3 The office and staff (secretary general Ranka Javor) is in City Library of Zagreb ( branch of Zagreb City Libraries) 1.4.4 The Executive committee has four meetings annually.

Membership 1.4.5 Many organizations are the members of NS: elementary schools, schools and public libraries, The Croatian Writers Association , The Croatian Literary Translators Association , Interest Group of Illustrators and publishing houses. 1.4.6 The NS has no individual members. 1.4.8 1.4.9 We inclusive our membership of persons inviting them to promotions of new books and meetings with authors, illustrators and editors and at our regularly month meetings in the library. 1.4.10 1.4.11 Our conferences at April every year included students from the Teaching academies and students of librarianship. 1.4.12 Once a month ( the first Tuesday of month). We sent them information at the beginning of the year. By mail and post we send informations about promotions and meetings ( about 10 in one year). The organizations and individuals cooperate with NS in various activities: conferences, seminars, workshops, activities for promoting reading, exhibitions and promotions of children’s books. They are contacted by post, e-mail and articles in newspaper ( meetings and conferences).

2. FUNDING

2.1 Annual Budget. The average annual budget is about 10. 000 US$. 2.2 Sources of income 2.2.1 No 2.2.2 No 2.2.3 We get regular grant from the Zagreb City Government ( annual budget). From the Ministry of Culture it is irregular and the section has to make a request for this grant every year. 2.2.4 We have some grant as sponsorship from the editors, but it is not financial support, only printing materials and prizes for quiz. 2.2.5 No 2.2.6 Yes, for the books of proceedings from the conferences. It is 500 US$ annual. It is 5% of our budget. 2.2.7 No 2.2.8 No 2.2.9 No 2.2.10 Our fundraising strategies depends from support from the Zagreb City Government and more sponsorship from the editors.

NATIONAL SECTIONS ACTIVITIES

3.1 Main activities 3.1.1 Meeting and conferences In April 2008 ( Reading –Obligation or Pleasure ) and 2009. ( Journals for Children and Young People) international conferences were held in Croatian Centre for Children’s Book in Zagreb. Conferences were organized in co-operation with Slovenian section of IBBY, network of public and schools libraries in Croatia and Teaching academies in Croatia. At 2008 conference about reading we invited speakers from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. A conference of that kind has been an annual event and approximately 80 - 100 persons attend it each time. NS edited two books ( proceedings from the conferences): Reading –Obligation or Pleasure ( 2009) and Journals for Children and Young People ( 2010)

3.1.2 Our representative Ranka Javor had a presentation on International symposium about illustration in Bratislava ( BIB 2009): IN HIS WAY or the Relationship Between Picture and Text in the Books of Svjetlan Junaković and presentation Croatian Centre for Children's Book at the Symposium Multiculturality in European children's libraries (12th November 2008 – Ljubljana Metropolitan Library, Slovenia).

We also cooperate with TRADUKI.

TRADUKI is a European network for literature and books, where Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Germany, Kosovo, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, Serbia and Slovenia are involved. The exchange between the participants is to be advanced through a translation program for fiction, current specialised books as well as books for children and young people. There is a special focus on the translators, whose work as important cultural mediators has given the project its name. Meetings between authors, translators, publishers, librarians, critics and scientists shall advance the exchange of information and strengthen the cooperation.The network TRADUKI was initiated cooperatively by the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, Swiss arts council Pro Helvetia, KulturKontakt Austria, Goethe-Institute and S. Fischer Foundation.

We was at meetings in Volkach , Germany ( 2008.) and at Split City Library ( 2009). Ranka Javor spoke about Croatian books for children and prepared the exhibition at Split City Library. 3.1.3 No 3.1.4 Croatian IBBY Section in cooperation with editors and Ministry of Culture organized the exhibitions and stands at Bologna Childrens Book Fairs 2009 and 2010. We organized The Croatian Biennial of Illustration 2008 and 2010 in cooperation with Galery Klovićevi dvori in Zagreb. Participated countries: Austria, Croatia, Iran, Italy, Israel, Hungary, Russian Federation, Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Serbia. Ranka Javor prepared the exhibitions of Croatian books for children at Leipzig Book fair 2009 and Frankfurt Book Fair 2009.

3.1.5 NS organized quiz for promoting of reading 2008 and 2009 in cooperation with editors and 350 children’s libraries throughout Croatia.

3.1.6 NS participate in regular meetings ( one a month) for school’s and children’s librarians. NS participate at international project “ International Children’s Digital Library” with National and University Library ( Croatia) and Internet Archive San Francisco and University of Maryland ( USA). In cooperation with bookstores and editors NS organized 15 promotions of new books and meetings with authors and illustrators. 3.1.7. Especially successful projects are: International conferences with participation of professionals from Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia, books of proceeding from the conferences, The Croatian Biennial of Illustration and The National quiz for promoting the reading.

3.2 Communication 3.2.1 No, but the information about section is on the URL is: www.kgz.hr - Hrvatski centar za dječju knjigu ( Croatian Centre for Children’s book) 3.2.2 No 3.2.3 No 3.2.4 The NS publish articles in the Croatian journal of international literary relations “Most” (“The Bridge” , publisher The Croatian Writers Association) about activities of the section and IBBY and about nominations and awards. We also publish articles in the “Novosti hrvatskog knjižničarskog društva”( Croatian Librarian’s Association Newspaper). 3.2.5 Yes, we promote own activities through national media: journals and newspapers, radio and television.

3.3 Cooperation at a national level

3.3.1 Editors, researchers, school’s libraries and children’s libraries, students and parents consulted NS about children’s book. We also recommended books at radio and TV.

3.3.2 This institutions are National and University Library, Croatian School Museum, The Croatian Writers Association , The Croatian Literary Translators Association , Interest Group of Illustrators, school’s and children’s libraries and editors. They informed NS about the projects and needs. 3.3.3 Yes, NS collaborate with this institutions.

4. Cooperation with IBBY

4.1 International activities in cooperation with IBBY Congresses and General Assemblies 4.1.1 2 in Copenhagen 4.1.2 No, we do not participate in IBBY regional conferences, mainly for financial reasons.

International Children's Book Day (ICBD) 4.1.3 The Croatian IBBY section organize the conferences about children’s books and reading in relation to the International Children’s Book Day.

4.1.4 We do not design a poster but we give the messages and posters from the sponsoring NS to libraries . 4.1.5 We disseminated information about the ICBD through e-mail, mail, TV and radio.

IBBY Awards and projects 4.1.6 Hans Christian Andersen Award In 2008 and 2010 illustrator Svjetlan Junaković was nominated and was among finalists. 4.1.7 For the 2008 IBBY Honour List NS nominated: author Sanja Pilić, illustrator Vjekoslav Vojo Radoičić and translator Predrag Raos

For the 2010 IBBY Honour List NS nominated: author Ivona Šajatović illustrator Stanislav Marijanović translator Lara Hölbling Matković

4.2 Cooperation with other national Sections 4.2.1 Yes, we cooperate at international conferences and exhibitions.
