Grants/Clinical Trials/Registries

Grants

Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation Grant (2-5-16072) Title: National comparative trends in utilization of percutaneous endovascular dialysis access maintenance procedures by provider specialty, associated complications and long term patency rates using Medicare 5% files.

Faculty Sponsor: Paul J. Rochon, MD Resident PI: Premal Trivedi, MD Awarded: 10/1/15

Funding: $30,000 Percent effort: 40%

Clinical Trials

ACCelerated Thrombolysis for Post-Thrombotic Syndrome Using the EKOS System (ACCESS PTS) Site Principal Investigator: Thor Johnson, MD Site Sub Investigator: Paul J. Rochon, MD Percent effort: 5%

 Sponsor: EKOS Corporation (multi-center trial)  Purpose of study: To evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound accelerated thrombolysis using the EkoSonic® Endovascular System with standard infusion of thrombolytic drug for post-thrombotic syndrome and chronic venous occlusion.  NCT # NCT02159521

PRESERVE (Predicting the Safety and Effectiveness of Inferior Vena Cava Filters) Site Principal Investigator: Paul J. Rochon, MD Status: IRB Approved. Now at Office of Grants and Contracts Funding: $20,000/year 12

Percent effort: 10%

 First large-scale, multispecialty prospective clinical research trial to evaluate the use of inferior vena cava (IVC) filters and related follow-up treatment in the United States—initiated by a collaboration between the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS).

 Predicting the Safety and Effectiveness of Inferior Vena Cava Filters (PRESERVE) will directly address an August 2010 FDA medical alert detailing the possibility that retrievable IVC filters could move or break, potentially causing significant health risks for patients. The study will have the goal of obtaining a real-world view of the safety and effectiveness of most filters placed in the United States.

BEST CLI Trial (Best Endovascular vs Best Surgical Therapy in Patients with Critical Limb Ischemia) Site Prinicipal Investigator: Kevin Rogers, MD Site Sub Investigator: Paul J. Rochon, MD Status: Enrolling Percent effort: 5%

 This study will compare the effectiveness of best available surgical treatment with best available endovascular treatment in adults with critical limb ischemia (CLI) who are eligible for both treatment options.

Phase 1 trial of IPI-926 plus cetuximab in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

Site Principal Investigator: Antonio Jimeno, MD

Site Sub Investigator: Paul J. Rochon, MD Status: Completed, Manuscript accepted Percent effort: 5%

 Only a limited number of patients with relapsed/metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) benefit from anti-EGFR antibodies (i.e. cetuximab). Preclinically, hedgehog pathway (HhP) inhibition synergizes with EGFR blockade in vitro and in patient-derived xenografts. This phase 1 study combined cetuximab and IPI-926, a HhP inhibitor, in patients with relapsed/metastatic HNSCC. Patients underwent three serial tumor biopsies before and during treatment. The maximal tolerated dose of IPI-926 was 160 mg. Among 9 treated, 8 evaluable patients, the best responses were 1 partial response (12.5%), 4 stable disease (50%), and 3 disease progressions (37.5%). The median progression free survival was 77 days (95% confidence interval 39- 156). Decreases in tumor size were seen in both cetuximab-naïve patients (one HPV-positive, one HPV-negative). Toxicity was consistent with prior single agent 13

IPI-926 and cetuximab trials. Clinical benefit was strongly associated with intra- tumoral ErbB and HhP gene expression down-regulation during therapy, supporting the preclinical hypothesis.

Veins for Life 2 Site Principal Investigator: Paul J. Rochon, MD Status: On Hold due to rewriting of protocol

 This study will compare prospective safety and quality of life outcomes in patients receiving chemotherapy via either port or peripheral IV. It will also explore patients’ reasons behind choice for a vascular access device and patient satisfaction with the choice of a vascular access device.

Registries

Registry of Angiovac Procedures in Detail Outcomes Database (RAPID) Site Principal Investigator: Paul J. Rochon, MD Status: Open Funding: $300/year Percent effort: 10%

 Sponsor: Angiodynamics Purpose: To collect information on the Angiovac procedure and Angiovac device used in the treatment of deep venous thrombosis (DVT), right heart pathology and pulmonary embolism.

Worldwide Therapeutic Embolization Cohort Post Market Registry: EmboCoH Site Principal Investigator: Paul J. Rochon, MD Status: Open Funding: None Percent effort: 10% Protocol Number: 16-2481  This study is collecting information on patients who have had a repair of a visceral artery aneurysm. This information will go into a registry and will help make this repair procedure better in the future.
