The Holy Spirit…Part 3 (or is it 4?)

1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Psalm 56:4, 2 Timothy 1:7, and Psalm 90:12

A few weeks ago (and again last week), Steve S. led us on a study about the Holy Spirit that was inspired by the book “Forgotten God” by Francis Chan. I grabbed the book from the library and dug in. Something I read really bothered me and I wanted to discuss it with my Brothers from the Galley.

Chan asks the question: “If it’s true that the Spirit of God dwells in us and that our bodies are the Holy Spirit’s temple, then shouldn’t there be a huge difference between the person who has the Spirit of God living inside of them and the person who does not? What if I told you I had an encounter with God where He entered my body and gave me a supernatural ability to play basketball, would you expect to see an amazing improvement in my jump shot? And if you saw no change in my ability, would you questing the validity of my “encounter”?

1. How do we know if we have the Holy Spirit living in us?

2. How has your “temple” changed after the Holy Spirit moved in? Was it a slight makeover or a complete renovation?

3. What prevents us from making those necessary changes?

Insert your name into 2 Timothy 1:7 - “For the Spirit God gave ______does not make him timid, but gives him power, love, and self-discipline.”

4. Here’s the million dollar question: Knowing that we have all the power we need, what are some “temple improvement projects” that you still need to work on? Remember, our days are numbered. There is a deadline.

What is the project? When do you need to start?

How can we help?
