Thank you winter carnival volunteers We would like to offer our sincere thanks to the many parents, staff, and family members who volunteered to help with the winter carnival. Thank you to winter carnival co-chairs Julie Ippolito and Melissa Roberts.

We had more than 50 students from the Wheaton Warrenville South High School Key Club, as well as some former Madison students from Edison who volunteered their time to help with our event. Without their help, we would not have been able to keep all the games running the entire evening.

We would like to thank Joe Cortesi for announcing the raffle winners, containing the crowd around the stage, and running the Shoot to Win game all night.

Thank you to the families who donated sweet treats to the carnival. We had more than 100 donations for the cake walk. Thanks to TJ Bornheimer, Julie Hann, Leigh Ann Gaul, Sarah Johnson, Katie McBride, Dawnelle Muff, Jennifer Hasbrouck, and Margit Spires for your efforts setting up the cake walk room so quickly. Thank you also to Misty Gniadek for running the cake walk game throughout the entire evening.

Thank you to Heather Herr for her efforts with the raffle donations, Becca Hary for helping with our pizza orders, Trisha McGady for facilitating the cake donations, and Sybil Scaccia for scheduling the volunteers.

A great big thanks goes out to Tim Callahan and Kathy DiOrio for overseeing the carnival all night and helping everything run smoothly. The janitorial staff went “above and beyond” and ensured that each room was ready to go.

So many people were involved in the success of the winter carnival, we apologize if we’ve forgotten anyone. Finally, thank you to the families of Madison that attended the carnival. We hope everyone had a wonderful time!

Food donations needed in March All month, Character Counts will collect donations for a local food pantry. Please consider donating the following:

Kindergarten & 1st - cereal 2nd & 3rd - pastas and soup 4th & 5th - paper towels & toilet paper

March Character Counts will be Tues., Mar. 19 at recess where students will be making bookmarks for a local literacy program. If you have questions about Character Counts, please contact Amy Schmidt at [email protected].

School board candidate forum rescheduled If you’d like to hear from candidates running for District 200 school board, attend the forum at Wheaton North in the Commons on Apr. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m.

2 Eat some pancakes and donate books this Saturday The fourth annual pancake breakfast will feature servers from Madison’s staff. Join us this Saturday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. for pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee, milk and fun. Cost at the door is $5 per person; $20 per family max. Bring your gently used books, and the PTA will donate them to students in need. Sellers and volunteers needed for Madison Tag Sale Do some spring cleaning, earn some cash, and help raise funds for the Madison PTA by being a seller at the Madison Tag Sale. Click on Tag Sale Seller Registration on the Madison PTA page of www.cusd200.org for seller registration and volunteer details. Register by Apr. 5.

Tag Sale is Apr. 12 from 6-9 p.m. and Apr. 13 from 8 a.m. to noon.  Sale will feature ‘gently used’ children’s clothes, toys, books, games and small household items.  Sellers price all items.  For items sold, seller receives 70% of the proceeds and the Madison PTA receives 30%.

Book fair needs volunteers Consider volunteering at Madison’s spring book fair. Reading is vital to every child’s success, and raising kids as readers means getting involved while they’re young.

Please make plans to visit our Scholastic Book Fair, “Story Laboratory: Reading Gives You Super Power!” Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate them to read more. The more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get.

Book fair schedule Apr. 9 – 11 9:15 a.m.- 4 p.m., Tues. until 8 p.m.

3 Learn about Jefferson referendum and vote on bylaws Dr. Brian Harris, district 200 superintendent, will speak about the Jefferson referendum and answer questions on Mar. 12 at 7:30 p.m., during Madison’s PTA meeting.

Also at the March meeting, the PTA will vote on changes to the bylaws. The Madison PTA's bylaws provide the basic rules by which our association governs itself. Our bylaws help to ensure a smooth running association where members have a clear understanding of its purpose, structure, and specific rules. Necessary for our affiliation with the Wheaton-Warrenville PTA Council, Illinois PTA, and National PTA, the bylaws also ensure we maintain our non-profit status. Members can obtain copies of the updated bylaws by contacting Sarah Johnson at [email protected] or by phone at (630) 588-8468.
